UVA

Do I have a chance of getting into UVA with a 3.6 gpa and 29 ACT? I am a white, female, OOS applicant with a solid essay and great recs. I am interested in studying applied statistics and have taken AP and post-AP applied statistics. I also have a data internship at a local outdoor education center. I have many ECs.
Thanks!

I also go to a very competitive high school. I am not applying for any financial aid from the school.

Hi,

A UVA admissions officer was at a local HS and told the crowd that how challenging the HS academic course load and then GPA relative to that course load is a primary factor. So if your 3.6 is against the toughest possible schedule (you took all honor or APs when available) and the 3.6 falls near the top of what similar students did, then that might be good enough. If the 3.6 is with mostly non-honors/APs, then maybe not.

Even if what @aj1203 says is true, the 29 ACT will not be enough. Extreme reach unless you’re a legacy/hooked.

out of state acceptance is extremely competitive as a freshman and when you add legacy and thletes into the mix it is even harder. Can never hurt to try. We met a lot of out of state kids at the transfer orientation who had been waitlisted as freshman but got in as transfer 2nd years. Good luck.
