lol, forgot one more hook…first generation college student

I am a parent who has twin daughters at UVM. They were top students in a very good public school in Phila suburbs. Being twins they wanted to go together, and being twins they needed financial aid big time. They were accepted to UMiami with $20,000 each, UWisconsin $5000 ea, U michigan no money, and Wash U ed denied. UVM came through with 80% aid, work study program, honors college, and it is awesome. They made good friends, and are very happy there. D1 is in the business school, top drawer and very challenging. D2 art and sciences Poli sci major, Chemistry minor, applying to dental school. Pre med and nursing are awesome there as the Fletch Allen Medical school is terrific, and gorgeous. This is the place to be! Organic everything beautiful college town, lots of “normal kids.”

Decision: Status changed to VIP 2 weeks ago, and waiting
Applied: Yale (deferred), U Penn, U of Michigan, U of Virginia, Boston U, Northeastern U, Hampden-Sydney College (accepted)

How long does it take to hear back for a VIP application. It’s been 2 and half weeks, so I’ll wait until Friday when it’s 3 weeks and then I’ll call. What do you think my chances are for acceptance? At this point, I’m 80% sure UVM is where I want to go. It’ll come down to UVM, UM, and UVA if I get in to all 3, they’re essentially the same and if I am accepted to Penn or Yale that might change everything. Good luck to all and thanks for the help.

Tudormom, I’m jealous…my D only got $6k per year totaling $24k but we are feeling like u.v.m. is so overpriced to begin with!

UVM is my second choice, and I will most likely be matriculating, unless I get in to Yale/Penn and then I’ll have to really decide, UVM is perfect though, close to the environment, a great down with a mall, and close to the airport to fly home, not to mention nice dorms, good food and all the majors you could possibly ever want. I’ll probably be majoring in social work with a minor in biology, then move on to pre-med for neonatology. Hope everything goes well for everyone here!

deferred VIP… don’t exactly know why they would send me the VIP app if I wasn’t qualified for the school? They e-mailed me about everyday saying how qualified I was for their school.

I feel like everyone got that VIP thing. I did too. I got into Natural Resources. 92/100 average. lowish SATs 1590. but lots of extracurriculars plus hispanic. :]

Yeah I have a B average and got 1800 on my sats.

4.79/6 (honors, about a B+) Accepted - Business
SATs - 1280/1950, good essays, VIP candidate

It took about a month for them to turn around the acceptance, but I’m so excited! Congrats to everyone :)

How do they decide the VIP candidate thing? My son did get many offers for VIP apps from other schools (Siena, Hofstra, RIP, etc.) but not UVM. Oh well. Hopefully we find out today. Student at top New England Prep School 3.25 (school does not weight or rank). All College-Prep classes (no electives), honors and 4 AP’s. SAT 2130; ACT 30. Recruited but then injured so has not heard from coach, but intends to recontact if admitted to walk-on team (if he decides on that school). UVM is technically his “safety”, but he also really liked it and I wouldn’t be surprised (or disappointed) if he chose to attend. Waiting to hear also from Holy Cross, Villanova, Kenyon, Amherst, Williams, Trinity, Connecticut…and a few others!

I guess maybe he finds out today!

got in for civil engineering!

where does it say on the admissions status? i just checked mine and nothing has changed at all, does mean i have to wait another month? or would it say on the website that my decision has not yet been released?

How do you find out if you got a scholarship?

My son checked earlier and he said their was a notice that decisions would be posted at 5 PM. Don’t think he’s checked again yet.

accepted to college of arts & sciences!

GPA: 3.26
ACT: 29
Go to a private high school in MA

If you haven’t heard yet, when I logged on earlier this morning, it said this:

Application Type: Regular Notification: February 16th

I haven’t looked at UVM yet, it was a safety. I plan on looking at it though and if other schools don’t work out I might attend.

Can anyone give me info on pre-med/pre-dental at UVM? My son was accepted (to honors college )and he wants to go to dental school eventually.
any input would be so helpful.

You are aware that “pre-med/pre-dental” is not a major, right? It is simply a series of courses required by med and dental schools for admission. You can major in anything and take them. So UVM is no different than anywhere else for this. The fact that it has a med school on campus does provide some opportunity to shadow physicians and do health related volunteering, and maybe work in a lab (although UVM is not a research powerhouse).
