If you received an academic scholarship, is it safe to assume you would be invited to join Honors? I received a $13,000 (the highest before Presidential) Trustee’s Scholarship…
My son received the $18,000 Presidential Scholarship but has not been invited to join Honors. 32 ACT, 3.7 UW
It’s only the top candidates in each major that get invited to Honors, a few hundred kids total. My son got the $17,000 Presidential and no honors (so far at least). Not really expecting it when I see the stats of those that got in. Here is what UVM says on their website about who gets in:
We are targeting an incoming Honors College class of about 225 students, from UVM’s incoming class of over 2,200, so this is a very selective process. Due to our small incoming class size, many very highly qualified UVM students will not receive an invitation to the join the Honors College. It’s important to know that there is a second opportunity to join; students at UVM who complete their first year of study with a 3.4 or better cumulative GPA can apply for sophomore admission. Many of our most successful Honors College Scholars are students who joined the Honors College as sophomores.
Just found out I got in from Virginia!!! I applied as a history major, I have a 3.7uw/4.1w GPA (low, I’m surprised I got into the honors college tbh), and a 34 ACT. Don’t know how AP works, but I’m taking 6 IB classes. I also got the presidential scholarship- Really surprised at all of it but super happy!!!
I got in from MI with a 3.8 weighted and a 35 ACT (undecided major), also with pres. scholarship, so I’m pretty sure that high scores help a lot if your gpa is on the low end for honors! (Good rec letters probably help in this case as well…?) Also good luck to everyone who hasn’t heard anything yet-- remember that letters can still be sent throughout the next couple months!
Another wave of Honors College acceptances must have been mailed this week - my daughter just got the letter! (32 ACT, 3.9 uw, 4.1 w)
Has anyone received Honors College acceptances recently?
Does anybody know when RD Honors College notifications go out? Just got accepted to CAS today!!
From what I can tell from here it seems that the standardized test scores are really what puts a person into honors. Everybody seems to have low 4’s weighted gpa’s, but the ones with the higher act/sat get honors. We were admitted EA with presidential but still waiting to hear about honors.
Still waiting/hoping on behalf of our son.
In-state, RD, Green&Gold, 4.0 unweighted, 1500 SAT. Accepted to CAS.
And. . . It arrived in today’s mail. Postmarked 3/13.
