Some information/links may be slightly dated, but here is a guide posted in 2014 by a successful appellant, @CantQuit:

Good luck!
Sending in my appeal tomorrow night! Been working on it for 2 weeks because I saw my rejection coming
Hey guys,
I was waitlisted and sent in my appeal today.
Can any please tell me how they will notify me and by when approx.
Also I have not filled the waitlist form, should I fill this or wait for decision and then fill it?
Thanks
I can. My son was waitlisted in 2015. He followed CantQuit advice thread (above) he sent the packet in within a week of being waitlisted. You hear nothing other than “we have received your appeal”.
He did not commit to the waitlist as we were just going to wait until the last possible date. 5 days before May 1st ( decision day) He was just about to send his deposit for another school and a letter came in the mail that he was accepted!
Needless to say it was a very difficult few months and by the time that letter came he had already resigned and was getting excited to going to another school. No fun my friend.
Good news he is finishing his sophmore year and thriving at UW Seattle.
Bad news is his little sister got her waitlist letter Friday
@seattlefamily I accepted waitlist and then sent in my petition as they said decisions could take 1-4 weeks while waitlist form has to be filled by April 1st. They will still consider my petition right?
How long do you think it will take to hear back from them, and how will they inform me considering I don’t live in USA.
@Brownboy1738
@UWfromCA
how do we hear back in regards to our appeal? is it via email or on myuw?
i believe we just got a letter and or note via UW student login that “your petition has been received and is under review” I don’t remember how long but no longer than a week.
Oh I just found a reply in regards to response about my sons waitlist appeal-
seattlefamilyseattlefamily April 2015
I honestly don’t know I checked online after we sent the letter around April 3rd and online status was we have received your petition and we notify you via mail of our decision. Then I never checked again . My son was going to deposit at another school.
We received the letter April 23rd stating i am pleased to inform you that the committee on admissions and academic standards has approved your petition for admission. You will receive an official offer of admission along with appropriate instructions regarding enrollment and registration within the next week. The committee extend to you best wishes and success in the pursuit of your educational goals.
I didn’t look at his online status until after we had received the letter in the mail and then it said “congratulations”
We received his packet of admission on April 25th
So overkill I know but I was looking at the other waitlist thread. The the difference with my son is he did not accept the waitlist before he appealed. On the other waitlist thread it looks like once you have accepted a waitlist position they will only take into consideration updated transcript
@seattlefamily do you remember when your son submitted his appeal letter?
He sent it around April 3rd. And had not accepted the waitlist spot.
I think the letter was actually mailed around March 30th
@seattlefamily
so we have to accept waitlist otherwise the petition isn’t considered right?
It’s been 2 weeks since I sent in my petition and I have accepted waitlist.
32 ACT
3.6 GPA out of 4
Do you think I have a chance?
@kassyD are you in-state? Did you include letters of recommendation? What were your arguments in your appeal?
@noidentityseen I’m from California, but I attend an IB school outside of the US. Yes I had 3 letters of recommendation. I addressed all the points on the appeal website. Hope I hear back over the next week.
Not quite sure why I was waitlisted in the first place
I sent in my appeal a couple days ago, did anyone get a conformation email?
@selxx23 I got a confirmation email 4 days after I sent in my appeal. You get your appeal decision generally after 20 days even though they say 4 weeks. So I hope I hear good news this week.
