I saw on the admissions site that the fall 2013 freshman application is being extended till Monday evening. Any idea why this is?

Just curious.

I saw on the admissions site that the fall 2013 freshman application is being extended till Monday evening. Any idea why this is?

Just curious.

The school has tacitly accepted applications until that date before, so they decided this year to just announce it. Maybe they didn’t get as many applications as they were hoping and were trying to get more people to apply?

Man, I hope JuanitaRebel’s theory is correct. A 70% acceptance rate for this year would be awesome.

That would be nice 8)
I wouldn’t want to be the kid to turn theirs in on the 3rd. That just screams poor planning.

maybe it’s their way of seperating applicants. maybe 12000 get in if they apply by the 1st, and only 2000 get in after.

@UDUBHUSKIES

I highly doubt that they would announce that the application deadline is the 3rd, then discriminate against those who turned it in after the 1st but before the 3rd.

yah, that was a pretty out of the blue theory. but anyways, let’s say your original theory is correct. chances are that they would not get 26000 applications even if they were to extend the deadline. i’m guessing about 24000 apply. So, we will probably be looking at an acceptance rate in the high 50’s (57%-59%). That sounds a lot better than 50%-55%.

Are we sure they are getting less than 26k applications? I got this in my most recent email from them: “Take a deep breath and try to relax. Now it’s our turn to work! Between now and March 15, we will carefully review over 26,000 freshman applications”

that’s what i got. i know that they got 26k last year, so maybe they just assumed that they would get 26k applicants? it’s also possible they got >26k.

Just putting it out there that my hypothesis was nothing but that. It isn’t supported by any data, I was just putting out a possible reason why. Also, just because the total number of applications doesn’t decrease, doesnt mean UW reached their expected growth in total number of apps. Not worth losing any sleep over. Just let it be. It is out of your hands right now, nothing more you can do but hope you get accepted .

No sleep lost here, just simple curiosity.

^The last part wasn’t directed at anybody in particular.
