I’m applying for transfer too! I’m currently a freshman at a WA cc. I’m also applying to Foster School. The deadline’s April 5th for that.
I didn’t complete all my pre reqs for Foster. I am done with 5/8 pre reqs. The other ones are Accounting series and Business Law. I can complete 2 of them in the coming Spring and Summer quarters. Since I am a freshman will they take into account that I completed most of them?
These are my stats:
High school - UW - 3.78
First Quarter - 3.67. I took some tough classes. And received a B in one of them; It will be 3.83 or at least 3.78 by the end of Winter quarter
SAT - 1300 superscore. I retook the test, so it should be >1400 now
Also do you guys know if will be accepted by UW as pre-business major if I don’t get into Foster?

And yes! The unofficial transcript trick works. I got admitted by UW during high school. The transcript loaded 1-2 days before they updated the website or sent me an email
I’m applying as a transfer student for computer engineering from a WA state community college. I am not sure how good my chances are, however I tried.
My stats:
Highschool: not good at all haha…
Credits: 145 credits when I transfer (finished all of the prereqs for junior admissions and all of uw’s general requirements)
College GPA: will be a 3.8+ when i transfer (3.82-3.85)
Extracurriculars: good
Essay: strong
We’ll see for UW Seattle. I have already been accepted to UW Tacoma
@transfer3018 Most freshman whether they are a transfer or not won’t get into their desired major right away unless you’ve completed all the pre-reqs which usually take two years before you can declare a major. So there’s a possibility you won’t get into Foster but you could still get admitted to UW and then just have to reapply once you’re getting close to declaring a major. Your stats are good but just remember UW doesn’t decide on who gets in just based on GPA, they view applications based on the person as a whole. I’ve seen a lot of people with amazing stats get denied so take that into consideration as well. You applied to UW in high school and got in… why aren’t you there now? What made you decide to go the CC route?
@cercit20 That’s good! I didn’t do well in High School either I had a 2.7 when I graduated and right now I’m done with my last quarter of CC this Wednesday and I’m projecting my GPA to be in the 3.8 range as well. From past threads, I’ve read UW likes to see transfers improve from high school to college than no improvement at all. For example, I’ve read that people who didn’t do so good in high school but did amazing in college had a better chance of getting in versus someone who did good in high school but also did good in college. Don’t know how accurate that is, but it gives the ones who didn’t do well in HS hope! Goodluck, I’m sure you’ll have no problem getting in!
@julietjuju3 I was OOS when I got in. And it wasn’t business then, I applied to computer science and got into Pre-Science.
I got into UCI as well. Submitted all housing and enrollment deposits. But because of financial reasons, I decided not to attend it. I was OOS for UCI as well. And it was like 60k I think. It was already too late for enrolling in UW
So flash forward. We moved WA. I will be applying to get in-state residency for Fall 2018
I guess everything happens for a reason. CC is really cheap and I’m taking as many classes as I can.
I still haven’t received the myUW email and I applied February 12th. It seems like many have by now so I’m curious of when you applied and if that has any connection to when you got the email.
@timhoganhvx I didn’t even wait for the email. I registered (don’t know if that’s the right word) for it the day after I submitted my application. I applied on the day of the deadline. Like 2 hours before midnight.
Just to confirm. Did the MyUW update for anyone? Like does it say what transcripts they received or what test scores?
I applied last year and it seems they kept those scores. All my scores were received in 2016/2017. But nothing from 2018
@transfer3018 it will not update with what transcripts they received. when mine were late, i called to confirm if they received them but they were unable to disclose that information. if they’re missing anything, they’ll email you only. the only thing left for myuw to update with is their decision. also, freshman transferring as sophomores will not (or mostly likely won’t) transfer straight into their major due to not meeting pre-reqs. there’s no way you can meet all the pre-reqs in one year, no matter the major (or at least i think). but, if you did emphasize that you’re actively working towards your major and have some pre-reqs completed, that should help your case. universities look for ambition, self-discipline, and inititave. best of luck to you!! be sure to keep us updated.
Dang! I’ve been trying to do that everyday since submitting the application and it hasn’t worked for me.
I am gonna be so active on this thread. lol.
@timhoganhvx Sorry I can’t help you more with that. I don’t remember what I did.
Ahh I literally check this thread and reddit every single day hoping that decisions are gonna be out sooner lol. I can’t wait anymore
@tylerphan I feel it! I really hope decisions come out early, like next month early because I can’t take not knowing what my fate is.
I check every few hours lol. I also keep checking my Unoffcial transcript. So I think we will get our decisions in May.
Here’s why: I just started my Foster School application. It says that Autumn admit orientation dates for transfers are June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, or August 6.
So I guess the decisions will start coming out on a rolling basis in May. Because colleges usually give 1-2 weeks to accept the admissions and pay the enrollment deposit.
Or maybe just the Foster decisions will come. They both act like separate schools. It’s possible to get into UW and not into Foster. But if you get into Foster you’ll definitely get into UW
I’m gonna attend a webinar and ask them. Maybe they’ll give us a clue to when we’ll get out decisions.
@UWadmissionstaff Can you please let us know when transfer notifications will start being released on the portal?
Does anyone know if you can change your major once you get in?
I would guess so but I’m not sure. People do it all the time. If you completed a lot of credits in your current major and your new major is not at all related to the old one then it would be like starting all over again for the major classes.
Also if the major is capacity-constrained then you would have to complete the pre-reqs and apply to get into that major.
I’ve seen a few comments about the admission notification period so I’m going to share everything I’ve seen or heard about this year and 2017. I think we’ve all seen May-July somewhere, but I wanted a concrete answer so I emailed an admissions adviser and asked. He said a relatively small amount of notifications will be sent out in May and the rest through June and July. If that’s accurate then it looks like we might have a wait of at least a couple of months. In fact, a coworker of mine who was admitted as a transfer for fall 2017 received his notification in the last week of May. So, unfortunately May-July looks pretty realistic after all.
Heyy all! UW-S is my dream school too!! I’ve applied and got accepted into UO and UNR but I’ve had my heart set on UW for awhile now and I’m the type of person that would like to plan ahead because this will be a pretty big move for me. I’m glad to hear that there is some sort of unofficial notice so that way there’s time to make a choice because most colleges ask you to accept or deny admission by May or June 1st! Anyway good luck all, glad I found this thread
@timhoganhvx you don’t need the email to set up your myuw id. i never received an email upon applying and actually made my own account a couple days before submitting my application. google myuwid and you should stumble across the page for making one. it is somewhat of a confusing process, so comment if you can’t find it/ figure it out.
