UW Bio?

Hello! I was wondering what the biology programs are like at UW - Seattle. I’m looking specifically at programs like Zoology, Entomology, or Botany. I am an out of state student by the way but grew up near Seattle and have heard that the school is very good. Thanks!

The biology programs are very competitive at UW Seattle and also for the reason that they can lead into the health professions (medical, dental, pharmacy, etc.), which are some of the most competitive majors at UW. If you are applying as a freshman, biology is probably a little below engineering/computer science in terms difficulty of getting admitted to UW.

“The Department of Biology is currently the largest undergraduate major on the UW Seattle campus.”

They just completed a new Life Sciences Complex:

Lots of undergraduate research opportunities. As stated in the Department’s Fact Sheet linked above, “Forty percent of our undergraduate majors are engaged in faculty-mentored research projects and contribute exciting discoveries to their research field. They present their results at university, regional, national and international scientific meetings and co-author papers in prestigious journals.”

Washington has been a leading university in the biological sciences for decades:
