I want to experience a real college life but at the same time I don’t really want to go that far away from home. Plus, I actually chose UW Seattle as my first choice but didnt get accepted (bummer!) so I’ll still be considered as Husky even though its the Bothell campus.
Im also interested in going to Medical School, which UWB don’t really have a major for that but WSU do. I know I can transfer to the main campus (UW Seattle) later but I’m not really sure how that work.
Anyway, which school is better?
P.S. I got accepted in both schools (UWB and WSU).
I have had the opportunity to attend all 3 fine institutions mentioned. I am officially a UW Seattle undergrad studying medical lab science but I’m cross-registering at UW Bothell this quarter. I also did running start in high school at WSU. My main answer would be go to WSU. Also I would like to clarify that “premed” is not a major virtually anywhere. You take the prereqs for medical school but have to choose a major.
WSU pros:
-small town so there is are ample opportunities for career advancement such as research and volunteering and not as much competition as there is on the west side. Seriously, lab jobs are basically thrown at you at WSU if you just put yourself out there especially if you decide to stay during summer session
-vibrant student population. No, WSU is not all frat parties contrary to popular belief and there is an overwhelming amount of clubs and activities to enrich your curriculum.
-pre med committee: you get to work closely with advisors and committee members that will ultimately write you an awesome letter of rec if you deserve it. (I don’t know you so I can’t judge haha)
-so many majors to choose from! Explore and don’t be boring and choose what you think medical school wants to see but do what you really want to do and integrate it into medicine!
WSU cons:
-living in a small town can be frustrating at times. if you have the chance, visit pullman and decide whether it’s a good fit for you.
-large classes, prereq classes such as chem, ochem, bio, math etc can be large (100-300 people) but they are absolutely nothing compared to UW Seattle (300-700 people)
UWB pros:
-shares some instructors with the UW Seattle campus
-small class size
-Seattle is 45 minutes away via bus (this can be a pro or a con depending on who you are)
-really nice labs since they are brand spanking new
UWB cons:
-professors are hit or miss. the biology department is rather new so it’s not the best. on the other hand my o chem prof Dr. Thiammaiah is awesome! WSU is more consistent with the level of professors.
-feels like a community college
-limited class choices
-limited majors
-limited clubs/activities
Don’t even bother transferring to UW Seattle if you go to UW Bothell this rarely happens. If you are set on UW Seattle you have a better chance if you go to a community college and then transferring rather than UWB. In short, go to WSU! In the end no one really cares too much about the cougs vs dawgs rivalry.
If you’re set on med school, go to WSU (did you get into WWU also, or not?)
UWB is essentially commuter, there’s no residential/campus life, and it’s essentially a “directional”, branch campus for people who wanted Seattle and didn’t get in. WSU will have the residential life you want (and that actually helps you grow and learn, provided you get involved, go to office hours, etc - which you need to do anyway as a premed since you’ll need to be in the top 10% of your classes).
Did you get into the Honors College at either one?
