UW Business School to announce major gift

My guess is between $50 and $100 Million.

"Dear students, alumni, faculty and staff,

On Saturday, October 27, 2007, we will be making a special announcement during the Homecoming Bash in the atrium of Grainger Hall at 9 a.m.

If you’re not able to join us in person for the announcement, the program will be available live via webcast at www.bus.wisc.edu.

On Wisconsin!

Mike Knetter
Dean, School of Business
University of Wisconsin-Madison

A red letter day. And a nice win over Indiana too.

http://www.jsonline.com/watch/?watch=1&date=10/27/2007&id=31048

Will this mean that more students will be accepted into the school of business compared to before?

Maybe a few up to 100. They want more quality in the MBA program so some will go there for scholarships. Prof pay needs to go up too. They really don't want to get bigger--just better. Here's waht the dean said--nothing about getting bigger.

" “The generosity of these alumni will enable the business school to build on its reputation of leadership and innovation. It’s the sort of forward thinking you can expect from Wisconsin alumni,” says Michael Knetter, dean of the Wisconsin School of Business.

The gift will help guarantee faculty excellence, keep the school’s nationally recognized undergraduate program strong, enhance the resources available to the school’s specialized Wisconsin MBA programs and bolster the school’s world-renowned executive education programs, Knetter says.

“One of our trademarks is that our students connect with and learn from real-world leaders,” Knetter adds. “The commitment made by the partners is a reflection of their enduring engagement with the school that helped them launch their own successful careers.”

The cool thing was 13 alumni each gave $5 million to keep the name the same, the school is required to keep its current name for 20 years (this doesn't prevent some big donor from giving in the future)- some very successful alumni out there!

I used to think having a name attached added some sex appeal but I have changed my mind on that. For one thing every ton dick and harry school now has a name attached. HBS is still just HBS and if it's good enough for them....
