Hey I’m applying to UW Seattle from out of state and given very few kids from my high school have applied to UW I’m kind of in the dark in terms of what they’re looking for. Anyway here’s my stuff
GPA: 3.68 (My freshman year I had a 3.11, but I improved my GPA every semester, my junior year I had a 4.22)
ACT: 31
AP’s: 1 sophomore year, 2 senior year
EC’s: Varsity athlete (4-year track athlete) DECA, Key Club, two school specific clubs, I spend a summer doing community service and worked as a lifeguard last summer, and attended summer writing programs at USC and Kenyon College.
Essays: Strong
And I applied to their English program
Thanks guys any insights are appreciated!
Hi! I applied to UW this year too. Good luck! I wish I could tell you your chances, but i’m not experienced enough. I hope you get in though (:
Your GPA is a bit below the average accepted, but the upward trend (better every semester) is great and will help a lot! I’d say that, given that info, your GPA is right in the sweet spot.
Your ACT is fantastic. It’s in the 80th percentile of accepted applicants. That’s great! I think you have a solid shot.
Your ECs are freaking solid. You have enough of those for three acceptees, hahaha!
Overall, you have a great shot, in fact, near guaranteed admission, I would say. Good luck!!!
Middle 50% ACT of enrolled freshmen in 2016 was 26-32; average unweighted HS GPA was 3.78. ACT of enrolled OOS freshmen in 2015 was 27-32.
OP, what is your unweighted GPA?
I went on the tour and presentation with my daughter last year. They mentioned they really look for interesting unusual essays. The presenter was very familiar with my daughter’s high school (we are local) and talked to us for a while afterwards. Not sure what your application status is timing wise but might want to think outside the box for these if you haven’t already sent in application.
