I’m a recently rejected in-state applicant. I know that this year is especially competitive so my chances of getting my appeal accepted are low, but I was wondering if anyone can give advice on getting appeals accepted.
I know it was probably my GPA that got me rejected. In my second semester of junior year, I earned a 2.57. For my first semester of senior year, I earned a 3.52 and last mid-term, I earned a 3.62. I don’t really have anything else to say other than IB classes were way too hard for me in my junior year. I’m an IB Diploma candidate by the way. But I want to say in my appeal that I learned to overcome difficulties (as cliche as it sounds), so that seems like a strong indicator that I would not give up in obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
My SAT was 1940, and I had lots of extracurriculars (over 100 hours of volunteering, violin, science) plus I won awards and am vice president at a club in my school.
My reasons for HAVING to go to UW are both for financial reasons and also because of the major it offers. I really want to do Bioengineering (don’t laugh, I know I have bad grades) and it’s not a common major at other colleges in-state. Plus, UW is ranked #11 in the nation for this major so I really feel like I would get a good education. As for the financial part, UW is fairly cheap for being such an amazing school. I have two other siblings who have yet to go to college and even though my dad’s income is good (~100k), he still loses a lot by sending my siblings to SAT classes and paying for extracurriculars. Plus this year, my dad has to buy a new house for my grandma and uncle so that they can move here because of health issues. We don’t have any other choice but to stay in-state.
Sorry that was long, but I hope it helps. Thanks.
