I applied cs and havent submitted any second major. if i dont get da will i be rejected from uw as a whole also?

I attended a webinar many months ago and my memory is a little foggy, but I believe it was strongly indicated that admittance to major and admittance to UW went together for CS and Engineering majors. CS and Engineering are the only two majors treated that way because you must be directly admitted to CS to be a CS major and directly admitted to pre-Engineering to be an Engineering major. Students are not required to be directly admitted to other majors.

They said all students will be considered for your first major only, with the exception that CS majors could indicate Engineering as a second major and be considered for that, if I remember correctly.

But you could not include Psychology or something as a second major and be considered for that. Accordingly, if you picked CS first and are not admitted into CS, chances are you will not be admitted overall.

If UW doesnt accept you DA to CS but deems you qualified to attend the university, I believe you will be admitted to pre-sciences (undeclared). Last year, my kid applied to CS (OOS) and listed CSE as the secondary and was admitted to pre-sciences, so it is still possible to gain admission to the school.

That said, if you dont get DA and CS remains your goal, the path to transferring into the CS major at UW is damn near impossible. Its been well discussed here on CC and on reddit.

After reading last year’s fall admission thread, it sounds like Friday March 11, 2022 at 20:30 PST will be the notification date and time. Anyone have any better info?

OOS applied CS but got pre science with 3k per year. So we will not go since not DA to CS

My daughter applied test optional but can we still see her test scores in her official UW portal.

Her test scores were the weakest part of her application and she was rejected which is shocking because we at least expected to be waitlisted.

Should we call the admissions office for clarification?

No, I think the test scores are in everyone’s portals, but were not on the initial file that admissions readers reviewed. I remember reading that somewhere, along with UW’s policy to use test scores only to help — in other words, good test scores can get someone admitted who otherwise would not get in, but poor scores won’t keep you out if the rest of the application received a “yes.”

I will see if I can find that info again on the website.

This confirms that reviewers don’t see the scores, even if submitted:

Admitted OOS to pre-sciences with 3k/year p+g scholarship! Such a pretty campus

All engineering students are engineering undeclared their first year. They don’t get accepted to a major until they all complete general first year engineering. Purdue does the same thing.

Is there anyway to file an appeal?

My D has not received an email yet and she is having trouble logging into the portal. Any idea what’s going on?

Yes, my son’s alternate major was Business Administration

When/where can you see any merit scholarships? Admitted, OOS.
