UW CSE Direct Admission Email?

@speedsolver: thanks!

i heard emails came out. did any of u guys get anything?

arandom: Where did you hear that from? Just curious~ Some of my friends are also hoping for DA emails. :)

i saw some pics on Facebook
its really weird cuz i have friends from my school with 3.9 top 10-5% class rank 14 ap classes plus above a 2170 sat score and haven’t got anything. but some other kids from other schools are. I’m not sure if they are sending it in waves or not

@arandom: Wait, pictures? So they took a picture of the email they got? I wish I could see this…

Emails are out. I know of a girl who got in direct, but she also got into 2 Ivies and MIT, so…

Read something like
'Hi Name,

Due to the strength of your overall UW application, the CSE dept decided to try something we’ve never done before. We held a special meeting to review your application early and we want to offer you direct admission to the CS&E Dept!

Congratulations!"

The email came yesterday (PST). It’s very competitive to get in to.

yea everyone ive heard that got DA to cse got into ivies or mit. whats the point of making it so hard honestly…most of the people of that caliber will prob choose MIT over uw ecs…

They don’t wan’t it to be as exclusive as it is, but the number of students attending UW and therefore applying to the department has grown many times while their funding has stayed much the same and even decreased. Therefore, the number of available spots in the entire engineering department (but CSE in particular) has stayed much the same, and they are unable to accommodate everyone, as much as they may want to.

Even 2-5 years ago, the admission rate was 3-4 times higher than it is now.

Basically the reason for direct admit is to help entice the kind of student that also got into the “Ivies”. If they think you are coming to UW anyway, they don’t have much incentive to offer direct admit.

FYI, since some direct admits go to other schools, CSE does have a waitlist… so if you decide to go to UW even without DA, there is a small chance you’ll be admitted in May or something, in case anyone’s up for surprises. That’s maybe 5 spots though, it depends on students’ decisions.

any ideas if all the DA emails have been sent out or not??

Apparently offers of direct admission are supposed to be sent out next week (Wednesday or Thursday)

@hueyosie, did you hear that from a reliable source?

@SirDan Yeah, I replied to the original email, so the answer was from someone in the CS department.

Has anyone hear back from UW regarding CS direct admission?

Nope, I’d assume it’s tomorrow. Good luck, everyone!

Something to note:
If you are not directly admitted, you may not receive notification saying so. I believe for my year they only contacted people who were admitted. I’m not positive they still do this, but it is a distinct possibility.

Yes, you are right; however, I’m more than positive that someone will post here if they receive one. Then we know that they’ve been sent out, and if we haven’t gotten one, then we weren’t admitted.

I’m a student in CSE (DA for 2010), I’ve been working with one of the advisors. This morning (after my first post) she confirmed to me that emails will be sent out this afternoon.

Try not to freak out too bad.

Adding onto mlidge’s (hey!) post, you will NOT be notified if you are WAITLISTED or REJECTED.

Keep your fingers crossed for emails to your UW email today.
