Hey everyone, this is my first thread!
Like many of you, I’m very anxious to know when an acceptance notification/letter will arrive. I feel like June+July is very late to find out, but I know some transfers find out as early as late March/April. So I’m crossing my fingers that’s the case for me because I don’t think I’ll be able to wait until the summer to know. Other school’s want you to accept by May.
From reading other threads, I’ve found out that on the My UW, if they upload your transcripts and there is a student id that means you got in. I check mine literally every day, so still nothing. It’s still early, but I’m very anxious! I sometimes find it unfair that the freshman are being notified between March 1-15.
Thought I would also add my stats:
In state (but would require housing)
In my last quarter of community college.
Will transfer with an Associates Degree.
I applied the day the application came out (don’t know if that makes a difference?)
Currently, have a 3.57 GPA (expecting it to go up after my last quarter is finished)
Did terrible in High School (not sure if they will take into consideration of my improvement)
Applied to Sociology major because it has very little requirements to increase my chances (might change but interested in double majoring in Soc and Political Science. Please let me know how do-able double majoring is at UW)
@julietjuju3 your situation is similar to mine. i did horrible in high school and have a somewhat not great GPA (3.2) but explained about my gpas, and have not received anything less than a B since last winter. We do have to remember, that we are more than our grades and stats and there actual humans with actual feelings looking over our applications. and we tend to have a better (but possibly not that much better due to our stats) chance of acceptance because we have gone through with cc. this is because that means we are already prepared for uni and basically had enough time to “screw up” before really maturing and figuring out what we want. let’s just keep our fingers crossed and how they understand our situations and take chances on us!! i got accepted to SPU and didn’t even meet the minimum requirements, but they took a chance on me because i profusely explained my situation. so, i’m not saying that will be the same case with uw, but i like to use that to remember that the people reviewing our applications are humans, not robots. looking forward to your update on the other thread!! i too have been checking on that little transcript trick/ notification page literally everyday since applying (really not exaggerating. i check about two-three times a day, even though i know they’ll email you). GOOD LUCK AND HOPING WE CAN BOTH GET IN AND MEET! also, most colleges prefer to see improvement then just straight as because it shows you’re capable of self-discipline (a very important trait to have in school). i’ve ready many articles, including articles interviewing ivy league admission counselors, that talk about this. universities DONT want cookie cutter students, but obviously, you still have to live up to their expectations and requirements. hoping this helps elevate some of your nerves! we will find out soon. i’ll post in the other thread if anything updates for me.
also hoping my gpa increases this next quarter as i’m hoping to end with all as, or at least between b+s and bs.
@golddawgs I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Congrats on your acceptance to SPU, I got into SU, CWU, and an out of state college, but UW would definitely be the place I’d like to spend my next two years and hopefully graduate years. I’ve read in past threads that CC transfers have a better chance so I’m hopeful about that as well. You’re a breath of fresh air on these threads and I’m sure both of us won’t have a problem of getting in and maybe run into each other in a class or around campus – that would be awesome! I also check several times a day on My UW even though I know I won’t be hearing back until maybe next month. It just doesn’t hurt to check just in case lol. I’ll post in the other thread as well about updates. Crossing my fingers that the odds are in our favor!
@julietjuju3 transfer students from a cc have a significantly better chance than their freshman competition. I found a post on reddit where a uw admissions counselor answers questions asked by their users. it was posted recently too, so his info will be up to date. if you’d like, i can link that post. it really helped calm my nerves. he also stated that if we explicitly and profusely explain our situations, the admissions counselors really appreciate that and take that into consideration when making their decision.
@golddawgs Yes please do link it! & would I have to make an account to see the post?
@julietjuju3 Nope! Here is the link to the subreddit. Go ahead and scroll through that and you’ll find some stuff that’s helpful. There are other subreddits for UW as well. Upon reading past threads, it looks like the majority of people heard back in June… The earliest was about May and the absolute latest was July, with the rare case of even early August. UW REEAALLYY needs to get their admissions timing together. It looks like for the students accepted late, they had to pay for a (nonrefundable) spot to other schools, just in case. It also was very (well very doesn’t begin to describe how difficult it was) difficult to find housing within a week or less… That would be the case for me. I need to find housing asap, as I’m considered an independent student
Here are my stats:
20 Y/o, Female, Asian/Pacific Islander, Out of state, community college transfer
Major: Computer Engineering / Computer Science
Transfer Credits: On a quarter basis… I will have 155+ when I transfer (this is about 108 semester based)
GPA: Will be 3.81-3.84 when I finish (kinda low but I took a bunch of classes I didn’t necessarily need… my last two quarters will be 4.0’s)
Extra curriculars: solid. nothing too outstanding or out of the ordinary. i have some hackathon experience, several hours of volunteer experience, and am heavily involved on campus.
Essay: strong… could be a little risky but i had a few people read it and they said it was good
Professor Recommendation: I have 1 from my math professor
SAT subject scores: ehh… I really do poorly under timed exams. I don’t see how I am expected to answer 75 physics questions in 60 minutes and do outstandingly lol
Resume: strong
HS: really bad. but i made a huge improvement in college and have been taking college level classes for 3 years (since I was 17)
I have completed all of the prereqs and recommended courses for my major. & still i am probably going to rejected from the main branch which sucks.
I have already recieved admission to their tacoma branch- which is not as good as the main branches.
Is “My UW” down for anyone else? It won’t let me log in but it will let me access the website
I understand youre anxious and don’t worry hopefully we will know soon. Don’t think it’s unfair the freshman hear from UW first, their application is due in December vs ours in due in February.
I’m not 100% sure if turning it in makes a big difference but I do think it makes a small difference but you have to remember that the deadline was in February so they have to read all applicants and see who was best in this huge pool of transfers.
