UW GPA Lower than 3.8 kills an app?

I've kinda been wondering about this for awhile. Given strong SATs, EC's, and an upward incline in grades (nothing lower than an A in over 18 APs) since freshman year is there still much of chance? Oh, and a class rank of 1/610~.

Another EDIT: If I had an illness/extenuating circumstances, where would I put that on the app? The Essay?

Your G.P.A. doesn't really matter considering you're valedictorian. The lower GPA just indicates that your school doesn't suffer from Grade Inflation and may even suffer from grade deflation.

Thats definitely a relief, thanks for the comment.

My god poisonous...18 AP classes? (is that by end of Junior or Senior year)

and yes, put it in the essay (i.e parents divorced/died ect)

Over 18 APs??? There are 18 APs??? I have like planned to take 6-8 APs...Oh dear god, I'm done...

Haha, yea my school district is notorious for its competitive courses due to their weighted GPA scoring (I will graduate with a 7.6~). Each AP semester adds .08 to our GPA and an honors/dual-enrollment adds .04, which is how I was able to become valedictorian with a slightly lower UW GPA.

My school actually only offers about 16 (I took about 12 of them), and the rest I had to take online or at other schools. This is by the end of my first semester Senior year BTW, but if you took 6-8 you shouldn't be worried. Everything that I have read so far seems to indicate that as long as you took the most rigorous course load offered in your area, you will be fine.

haha seriously? there are 18 AP's? i only took 22 total classes in highschool. but to answer the original question...no having a UW GPA < 3.8 does not kill your app. there is no formula, people. it's a game. roll the dice and play.

^let's play some dice.

aw come on mollie, it was a reference to a funny show. :(

^ You really just need to have some class, Piccolo. What is wrong with you? I am sick and tired of seeing your posts being edited for "profanity"!

3.8 definitely won't get you into an Ivy League, especially with such an easy course load. Have you heard of IB classes? Man up.

:( the nearest IB school would require a 2.75 hour bus ride with switches, which is more than I could handle on a daily basis.

Why is everyone concerned about the number of AP classes taken? When your school report goes to H or wherever else you applied the school profile goes along and this is where it all becomes equal for applying students.
