I got accepted! Anyone else out there? Pretty cool, I applied to UW as a safety OOS, but now I have to consider it lol.

Also, anyone know if honors comes with any scholarships? When are university scholarship decisions announced?

good job - how did you find out you were accepted?

Congrats vc08! It's a great program, and not at all shabby considering it's a safety for you. I'd really like my son to be admitted so we could quit wondering about it, but he's still in limbo for general UW admission. His good friend found out today that he was admitted to Honors too, so it sounds like it's starting to happen.

Congratulations, vc08! Honors is a fantastic program that I'm very glad to be a part of. If you want to know any more about it, send me an email. There are a few scholarships in the honors program; you can find out more here: http://depts.washington.edu/uwhonors/current/scholarships/index.html#freshmen. If you receive one, you should get a letter notifying you and then it should show up on your financial aid package. Congrats again!

Midwest: I was sent a letter through snail mail, kinda a thin white envelope from "Washington Honors Program." Very nice letter though!

rainmama: Yes, I was admitted at the beginning of December, so it might take a while for your son; I'm guessing they are sorting through an enormous amount of applications right now.

Proud Husky: thanks! I'm sure I will be PMing you off-and-on looking for words of wisdom ;)
thanks for the link as well. I was actually really surprised I was admitted, I just sent them my new ACTs last week (31), so I assume they accepted me with my old ones (29). but i put a lot of time into the essay, and had a great GPA, so I guess that's what got me in! Two quick questions, while we're at it: 1) When does the financial aid package arrive (March/April I assume)? 2) Will UW consider my new ACT scores for scholarship purposes?

Once again, thanks for your help :)

vc08--Sure thing, if you'd like any additional thoughts, feel free to email me. I respond much faster to email than PM. =)

You probably got in based on your essay as they really are looking for students who the hunger to learn and discover. I was surprised to that I got in as I had a 28 ACT score and a 3.87 GPA. But I guess my essay turned out to be the kicker.

To answer your questions, the fin. aid package will probably come sometime in late February/early March. I can't remember when they sent mine. But as for the new ACT scores, my feeling is that your new ACT scores won't make much of a difference because they pool your application based on its completeness. Since you already had all the components with your old ACT scores, they most likely didn't update your application file. I hope that helps!

you were "surprised"? and you had 3.87? my GPA's even lower0....

Proud husky: thanks again! i need to go through all my college stuff this weekend, and i might be emailing you about a few things soon.

myusername: if you look at the stats for last years honors acceptees, the avg. GPA was around a 3.94, and the avg. SAT was a 1400+.

is the SAT CR+M+W?

No, that SAT score was based on the 1600 scale. UW doesn't have any published stats on the new 2400 SAT yet as they started keeping track of it in 2006.

so do they count them for 2012 incomings?

thanks

They're keeping track of the scores for about five years before they'll publish anything, so the short answer is no. It doesn't actually factor in their admissions decisions since they're collecting data. Honors is much less about grades and test scores than about your desire to really learn for the sake of learning.

agree about the honors thing. someone on here a few months ago said they had a 2230 SAT and did not get into honors. So, like husky said, it's more about the essay, by far.

Yeah...... I already got accepted at UW, but I didn't get an honors decision yet.

That pretty much means that my honors essay sucked, which it did. Oh well- at least U Arizona is free for me and I got into the honors college there. :)

Or it could just mean that they just haven't gotten to yours in their stack of over 1,000 applications...

haha, true, true. My honors decision came about 5 weeks after general university admission, so it's not all sent out at once. Yours may take a while, depending on when you were accepted (I got in around Dec. 10, I believe). Good luck!

Pretty much, yeah. I got an acceptance in the mail yesterday (which I didn't check until today.) And my essay still did suck (I honestly don't know how I got in.)

Got accepted today :)
Accepted to regular UW: Jan 25
UW Honors: Feb 15

Got accepted yesterday...with full tuition for one year! :O So excited. Congrats to everyone else!

Wow congrats on the scholarship, BubbleTea! Did they tell you in the Honors letter if you got a scholarship?

Also, I'm really excited I got in. The 2007 freshman stats listed on the UW Honors website are way above mine. It says average SAT math + reading was 1436. That's crazy! I only got 1300. I guess it's true that the essay is weighted a lot, as my stats seem mediocre.
