UW (Honors) vs. USC?

Hi all,

My college choices are now between UW and USC. I got into UW honors as well, but I don't know if that's worth it. Can you guys help me in my decision process?

I'm not sure what I want to major in. I used to want to major in Computer Science (CS & Business at USC or CSE at UW), but I'm also considering pre-med. I also have an interest in economics.

I've been living in Seattle for almost six years. I'm not in love with the weather, but I've gotten used to it. I think I can deal with it for four more years just fine, but I'd much prefer the sun in LA.

What are you guys' thoughts?

walkemskies,
same here. Live in Bellevue for 3 years already and to be honest, despite of how great of a school UW might be for my major, I am still doing my best to get out of here. USC was always my top choice, so now that I am in, I want to go there. But it all depends on the about of money they give me.

Yeah I’m still waiting for the financial aid decision. Have you visited USC?

@walkemskies,
no. I did not have a chance to visit USC, but still really excited about going there.
I just got my financial package for UW and it’s pretty good. What about you?

My final decision came down to USC and UW as well. I was not going to get in-state tuition and I received a very generous scholarship package at USC so it ended up being a pretty easy decision.

If you’re seriously considering pre-med and UW ends up being significantly less expensive I would consider it to save money for med school, but if things end up more or less equal financially, USC is a better place to be undecided about your major.

I probably will visit during spring break provided I get a good fin aid package. UW gave me an excellent package as well!

I’m not sure how much I actually want to do med… Is it easier to switch schools/majors at USC?

Pre-med: Go with whatever is much cheaper as they’re both good pre-med schools and have equal research and clinic opportunities due to having hospitals.

All things being equal, USC is private and less impacted regarding the budget so you generally never have issues switching a major, adding a major/minor, or getting into classes.

Another thing worth noting is after going to high school up in the Seattle area and eventually making it down here, you will never want to move back up to the PNW. The weather here is amazing!

The weather is the main incentive for me to go to USC… UW gave me full financial aid but USC hasn’t sent me anything yet.

How do you like USC? The campus seems really small…

both great schools! but i agree completely that money is the deciding factor here since youll need med school.

USC’s campus really isn’t small, UW is just really, really big.

@hope4usc
yeah I just got my statement from USC and it’s not great… so I guess it’s UW for me!

@BandTen
I suppose… I’ve just always pictured USC as this huge private school haha
