I'm wondering whether it would be better to go to UW-La Crosse for all four years (I've already been accepted) or go to a technical college such as Madison Area Technical College for two years and then transfer to UW-Madison. I've been postponed at Madison, and I have a feeling I won't get in so I am weighing my other options.

I don’t know, as I’m not familiar with La Crosse to contrast it with Madison. But I do know a student who started At the Technical College and was able to be accepted at Madison after just one year (had a great gpa).

What do you want to go into? LaCrosse is still a good university and well respected in the region, especially for the biological sciences.

If you’re considering MATC I’m guessing you’re already in the Madison area? If so, from a practical standpoint I would look at MATC first and talk to a UW counselor about what classes you would need to take to be eligible to transfer. I would think you would be able to do it in a year. You’ll also save money at MATC vs. UWLAX. But don’t give up hope yet on getting into Madison. I know of a postponed student who had similar stats as you from the class of 2012 - about top 28%, 26 on the ACT, no calculus and only 2 ap’s when he applied. He aced his first semester senior year and moved up about 25 spots in class rank, plus he earned the silver key (which you already have). He was admitted in March, and has been very successful at UW, including acceptance into the Business School. A lot of your classmates will suffer from Senior Slide, and if you stick with it, you will move up in class rank - which appears to be your weakest stat. Good luck and study HARD this semester ;)
