UW-Madison or Rutgers-NB

Rutgers totally hosed in new budget cycle.

RU President McCormick says:

“We’re envisioning a transformation of the character of our student body,” McCormick said.

The University enrolled about 7 percent out-of-state and foreign students last fall, according to the Office of Institutional Research. They will try to more than double that in the coming years, hoping to enroll about 18 to 20 percent out-of-state and foreign students, McCormick said.

The president said this past semester he taught a Byrne Family First-Year Seminar. While his students varied in their economic and social backgrounds, they did not in their origin.

“Every one of them was from suburban New Jersey,” McCormick said. “I think everybody gets a better education if they went to school with people who are from different places with different perspectives.”

http://www.dailytargum.com/news/u-projects-record-high-enrollment-1.2231955</a></p>

Wow, nice. It’s almost as if he read this thread and decided to comment on it.

President McCormick should be commended for his efforts to increase geographic diversity at a school that, unlike UW, is already richly diverse racially and economically. Staying ahead of the game is key to avoiding the kind of problems that UW has faced, as described in this article:

http://www.redorbit.com/news/education/463407/uw_feels_effects_of_poor_diversity_some_firms_end_recruitment/index.html</a></p>

Too bad you can only find 4 yr out of date material.

Come on novaparent, really? You should work as a spin guy for a political campaign because I don’t see how can you turn around McCormick’s statements as a positive for Rutgers.

McCormick is basically saying he wants his school to be more like UW in terms of their student body, “The University enrolled about 7 percent out-of-state and foreign students last fall, according to the Office of Institutional Research. They will try to more than double that in the coming years, hoping to enroll about 18 to 20 percent out-of-state and foreign students, McCormick said.”

While Rutgers is merely HOPING to enroll 18 to 20 percent in the coming years, UW already has 34% of its student body that is out of state or international.

“Every one of them was from suburban New Jersey,” McCormick said.

Yeah, Rutgers is really the pinnacle of diversity.

“I think everybody gets a better education if they went to school with people who are from different places with different perspectives.”

Which you get at UW, and not at Rutgers.

novaparent, Your personal crusade against UW is getting really silly and frankly you’re just embarrassing yourself at this point. The president of Rutgers basically refutes your arguments about Rutgers being diverse and yet you continue to advocate your position as if its correct. Are you a former student at Rutgers or you just blinded by your apparent hatred of UW?

I highly doubt that President McCormick wants the kind of diversity – or lack thereof – that is lamented by UW professors, students, administrators, and employers in the article that I have attached. Why don’t you drop him a note and ask him if he’d rather have the current diversity of RU undergrad or UW undergrad?

“Multicultural incompetence of UW-Madison graduates has prompted corporations to end or threaten to end their recruitment here,” said Bernice Durand, associate vice chancellor for diversity and climate.

Pretty serious stuff.

I’m pretty sure of thing–he’d rather be running Wisconsin than Rutgers. He’s been handed a moribund university with multiple problems. He’d kill to have UW’s “problems”.

Maybe, maybe not – but doesn’t answer the question.

novaparent, you are quoting a newspaper article from four years ago that is in no way shape or form the only viewpoint on UW’s diversity. This might come as a surprise to you, but not every article written in a newspaper by a journalist is always entirely accurate. I think the article in question is poorly written and I disagree with the assertions made there with good reason.

I, and others, have outlined the reasons why UW is in fact diverse and Rutgers is not. Even their president admits it. Your continual insistence to the contrary makes you look dumber and dumber by the minute.

Seriously though, isn’t there any moderators on this forum to deal with ■■■■■■?

Here we go with censorship again. Since wis75 has declared this thread dead barrons has posted two negative RU comments in a row (responding to himself I guess?) and you’ve joined in. So why am I the ■■■■■? Because I disagree?

I’ve joined in because I (unwisely) couldn’t help myself.

As for being a ■■■■■: [■■■■■ (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/■■■■■_(Internet]■■■■■">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/■■■■■_(Internet)</p>

“In Internet slang, a ■■■■■ is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.” (Emphasis added by me.)

You are obviously wrong and yet you continue to argue against UW simply because of some personal problem you have with the school and/or barrons. You are doing this with the intent of causing problems on the UW board as “retaliation” for what barrons has (allegedly) done on the UVA board. Obvious ■■■■■ behavior.

Hopefully I didn’t just waste more of my time trying to explain things to you.

A ■■■■■ would respond to your last message. But I won’t, as it’s off topic.

I am not obviously wrong that UW has a diversity problem. Many others, including UW istelf, has acknowledged the problem. UW also appears to have a problem with dissent. What is this, the Soviet Union?

edit: I just realized I misread what you wrote. Anyways, its pointless to keep talking to you, I’m just feeding an obvious ■■■■■ with my continued responses.

With that in mind, I am going to stop.

Thanks for the USSR reference though, that made me laugh=)

Thank you all for the comments, they are appreciated but I have received admission to the University of Michigan which was my first choice all the while and will accept the seat. If you can inform me about the University of Michigan as you have Rutgers and Wisconsin that would be appreciated.

Nice! Congratulations!

Thank You :)

You can check UW compared to Michigan threads on the UW site (here) from several months ago for comments, but if you have made your decsion you may not want to read them. Read up on Michigan at their CC site.
