UW-Madison or UIUC for computer engineering

Hello Everyone,

I have been accepted in UW-Madison for Computer Engineering. I have also been accepted at UIUC, but in General, so not specifically in any field. Which means I have to compete to get into computer engineering in UIUC for next year.

I want to go to UW-Madison primarily considering it's cheaper than UIUC.

So, should I go to UIUC or UW-Madison for computer engineering?

Hmmm... how much cheaper?

Keep in mind UIUC Comp. Eng. ranks 5th in the nation.

UIUC comp eng is top. Unless the cost difference is significant, you will find UIUC engineering experience more valuable imo. Stronger student body, better facility, and stronger facutly.

The cost difference is $10,000 per year, so over four years it will be a $40,000 difference.

Also, do you guys think that going to UW-Madison for engineerng will really CAUSE A HUGE DIFFERENCE in the jobs I get after graduating compared to going to UIUC.

Sheesh. $40K? Go to Madison.

madison is still a very well respected school

For last year the avg UW CE grad made $57,148 while the average UI CE grad made $57,902. Given that a fair number of UW grads elected to work in Madison where salaries run lower, I think the numbers are pretty much a wash. For 2008 the prelim UW avg is up to over $63,000.

BTW UW grads designed the first two computers. ENIAC was just a copy.
