Uw-madison vs iowa

If you read CC enough you know that Barrons is the poster child for UW.

Yes Barrons, UW is a good school. However, don’t come to the Iowa forum and try and make UI look less than what it it. Your elitist attitude is insulting and boring at best.

lovemykids2 thanks for the post. This shows how Iowa is a great school than some awru.

Both schools are good…lol the only thing that was said in the post was better reputation is at one school. I think Iowa is bomb my gf and best friend go there. But, UW-Madison, with similar academics, has a better rep. And they have just received a professor from Stanford and there professors are at the very top of the line.

Rankings don’t matter! There is simply no way to quantify how well a student will do at any particular school. Rankings are money-makers and no more than pageants for schools with money, fame, and reputation, NONE of which will tell you how good the school is FOR YOU. I am affiliated with neither Madison nor Iowa, but I know for a fact both schools are excellent, and I know alum from both schools who have gone on to lead very successful lives, as well as some who have led ordinary lives. Madison may have more ‘top’ professors, but that may simply mean they do a lot of research, but don’t teach very well. And some markers of quality, like how many undergrads pursue PhDs are just stupid. Just because you go to a school that produces a lot of PhD-bound students doesn’t mean you’re more likely to get one if you go there. I know people who have gone on to ‘top’ schools like Stanford, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon, etc. and some at schools with less illustrious reputations, like Iowa. And let me tell you, they all end up the same. Really, get over yourselves. You can get a top notch education at either school. End of story. I wish nothing more right now than for rankings to be abolished. Look at this if you still want more convincing: [Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com](<a href=“Video News - CNN”>Video News - CNN)

+1, bruinsfan. This is the definitive post on the pointlessness of blindly quantifying the quality of a large state university. Well said.

Well said Bruinsfan. Most schools have strengths and weaknesses. What’s important is that a student thrives and graduates well prepared for the next phase in their lives.

Barrons’ elitist attitudes got the best of me so I felt compelled to respond with more rankings.

Thanks for bringing me back to reality! :)

Go Hawkeyes!

And from someone who has had D’s at both, Iowa City is just as idyllic a college atmosphere as Madison. In fact, for football, personally I would rank the Hawkeye experience just above the Badgers, by a whisker. Each town is special in its own way, there are just as many students sporting black & gold as red & white. Bottom line is you could not pick two better places to spend your college years, providing you keep up academically.

Just as Harvard and Stanford are better than UW, UW is better than Iowa. Does not follow that Iowa is not good. Just not as good. It’s that simple. Believe as you wish but the data are clear and convincing. And I like Iowa City as a college town.

Does anyone know more about or have received the “Advantage” schlorship through the University of Iowa? I was wondering if my daughter would qualify for this due to low income. I also have a son in college and his EFC was 0 last year even without 2 in college yet.
