UW-Madison vs. Northeastern?

Hi!

I am majoring in business. I was accepted to both UW-Madison and Northeastern University with some scholarships. The costs (tuition + room & board) are relatively equal. Thus, I am really confused in choosing between these two.

On the one hand, I got into Honor Program (College of Business) at Northeastern while I have to attend College of Letters and Science in freshman year and apply for College of Business for sophomore year at Madison (acceptance rate is about 59%).

On the other hand, the business rank of Northeastern University is lower than that of UW-Madison .

Which one should I pick? Hope that I can get advices from you.

Thank you very much for the help!

Putting the rankings aside, I think you should examine what kind of college experience you want to have AND where you think you may want to live after graduation.

NU and Wisc. present very different experiences. Wisc. has one of the best college campuses in the country and has much more school spirit with highly ranked football and basketball teams. NU is located in the city and its campus is bascially all of Boston. At NU, hockey is king and that’s where the school spirit is generated. Football on Saturdays is not a big deal at all.

If you want to work on the east coast after graduation you will most likely (depending on the field) have a better network of NU grads to tap into. If you want to work in the Midwest (Chicago?) then a degree from Wisconsin will probably open more doors.

Both schools are nationally ranked and you won’t go wrong with either of them. But the contrasts between the two are striking so you really need to figure out what you want in a college experience and base your decision on that.
