UW or WSU for Pre-Med?

I’m trying to pick between Washington State University and University of Washington Seattle for pre-med. I understand these are not majors at these schools, but want to know which would ultimately be the better choice in preparation for medical school. Thanks!

UW Seattle’s Biology and Chem programs both make the top 25 in the country. UW Seattle specifically is also so close to many hospitals, clinics, and research centers. They have great advising/support, lots of volunteer and research opportunities.

WSU isn’t ranked as highly for Bio or Chem if you care about ratings. I’m not sure they have the same opportunities, either. I would probably say UW will be better.

UW is always ranked higher than WSU…no question there. BUT…someone recently told me that there are more WSU students than UW students that get into UW’s med school, so it adds an interesting twist to the question. I’ve been trying to figure this out, and wonder if it is because the typical UW class is more competitive and more get weeded out? But if you can make it through the UW program…I’d choose that one.

Both the UW or the WSU applicant still has to score high on the MCAT for UW’s medical school. Also, maybe within the state of Washington, UW medical school admissions might cut a little slack for the UW applicant vs. the WSU applicant if everything else is equal and knowing that a UW applicant is from a little more competitive school than the WSU applicant. This still does not explain why there are more WSU students than UW students in UW’s medical school. Maybe the UW students go to higher ranking medical schools like Stanford, UCSF, etc.
