UW prof wins National Medal of Science

<p>Carl de Boor, a mathematician and computer scientist, has won the 2003 National Medal of Science, the most prestigious science award in the country.</p>

<p>Administered by the National Science Foundation, the National Medal of Science has since 1959 recognized pioneers in a range of scientific fields. A committee of scientists and engineers appointed by the president of the United States annually evaluates the award nominees.</p>

<p>A professor emeritus of computer sciences and mathematics, de Boor will receive his medal at a White House ceremony on March 14.</p>
