UW Seattle Appeal

I'm planning on submitting my appeal to the UW tomorrow with 3 rec letters. Would anyone be wiling to look it over and provide feedback for me? It's just under three full pages (their max) and I want to make sure I got everything across clearly without being redundant. I can send it in a message if anyone's interested...

were you waitlisted or rejected?? @sixohyes‌
i was rejected too… :(

@calilove77‌ waitlisted! But I appealed and have since been accepted! If you’re considering appealing, I strongly urge you to do so.

@sixohyes‌s congrats!!! i already appealed but i haven’t heard back yet… how long did it take them to get back to you? about 3 weeks? do you mind sending me your appeal letter? just curious as to what you wrote…

@sixohyess‌ what was your gpa and scores? oh man…i’m really worried…i was rejected, not waitlisted so my chances are really low :frowning: UW was my dream school and ugh i sobbed when i got the rejection letter.
do they notify you by post mail?

thanks in advance  @sixohyess‌

@calilove77‌ GPA 3.47 (3.56 at time of Appeals) also my Running Start GPA was 3.68 and a 3.73 at the time of Appeals. SATs were an 1850. I first found out through an email from OSFA requesting financial documents to run my financial aid and I knew at that point my appeal was accepted. I didn’t get my formal letter (which was literally about four lines in a white envelope) saying my official acceptance packet would be coming within a week until a a day after the email. All in all, I heard back in two weeks, and an additional two or three days until I got the official purple and gold packet.

Hello @sixohyess‌,
I am a high school senior who got wait listed to UW as well. I have been wanting to appeal but it heard that perhaps it might affect your wait list decision if you are denied and decided not to. After viewing you story, I want to appeal again. I was wondering if you could offer me any advice on how you got accepted.
My story:
I am originally from Iraq, but lived in China since I was two years old. I just came into america six months ago (and i think that was a major part in my wait list decision). My gpa is a 3.72, I took 5 AP classes, lots of EC, a lot of church/community service, and I think I had a pretty good essay.
Do you think I have a chance if I appeal? Like asking you as stranger who got into UW, do you see me being part of the class of 2018 or am I wasting my time?
I got accepted into PLU, Whitman, Whitworth, Gonzaga, Baylor, Northwestern and Trinity.
Please get back to me as what you think I should do. I really really want to go to UW and it was my first choice.

also, is it too late to appeal considering that MAY 1st deadline for choosing a college is in a week?

@atothem96‌ I’ll give a better reply once I get back (headed out right now) but you can appeal WHENEVER! Even after the May 1 deadline for accepted students. They just give you a different deadline to commit by. If you appeal from a WAITLIST decision, in my opinion, you have better chances than a rejected student as you practically already have one foot in the door while rejected students have neither. You need to get your other one through while a rejected students needs to get them both… See? Haha. That’s not to say a rejected student can’t have a successful appeal, its just more difficult imo. Also, being denied an appeal hurts you in no way. It just means you cannot appeal a rejection from the waitlist. That’s the only effect.

I’ll post the other stuff later.

This is such great news to hear! Thank you for replying so quickly. I wrote my letter for appealing and I was wondering if you want to look it over? You really don’t have to if you think it’s weird or something. I look forward to hearing more information from you soon! Thanks!

@atothem96‌ I definitely could! PM me it if you would like. I also would recommend sending your final appeal letter to anybody who is writing you a letter of recommendation. I did this and I think it helped tremendously as it allowed my recommenders to write in accordance with my letter so that they were intertwined.

@sixohyess‌ thank you. my appeal got rejected…i’m really upset…i know i shouldn’t have kept my hopes up high because I was rejected in the first place so having a successful appeal would be difficult…
i honestly don’t know what to do… it was my dream school…and my parents won’t let me go to community college, so transferring from a four year university would be really difficult… :frowning: do you have any advice?

Why won’t they let you go to a CC @calilove77‌ ? I did running start in WA state at a CC and they’re not as bad as people make them out to be. It could save loads of money, and if you went to a WA state CC and then transferred to UW you’re guaranteed Junior standing upon acceptance. Anyways, that would be my advice ›› going to a CC. Beyond that, all that it looks like you could do is transfer from a four-year. But transferring from a four-year is really messy (both my sisters did it and lost tons of money doing it + tons of college credits). GOOD LUCK with whatever you do. And keep your head up!!!Appeals acceptance according to the UW is 5% and it’s not the end of the world that your appeal got accepted. UW isn’t the only good school out there, there a tons of others. I’m sure you’ll do great regardless. :)

@sixohyess‌ i just sent you a message ;)

@sixohyess I was just wondering when you will get back to me on the letter? I sent it through message. Thanks!

@sixohyess Hello, I was recently denied admission for fall quarter 2015. It was disappointing, but I am appealing and hoping they will reconsider my application and review it in a new light. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to read over my appeal letter. I am planning to send it off in about 3 days. It would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Best,

Phillip Christian

@sixohyess How long did it take for you to hear back after your petition.
Is it true your petition has higher chance if you’ve been waitlisted

Hi @sixohyess I was just recently waitlisted at UW. But I can’t find anywhere on the UW website the directions on how to appeal? It’d be super helpful if someone could help me figure this first step out!

@nightinarmour if you search uw appeal, something should pop up on their website it brings up a page and a link to the form! it then is linked to the portal.
