UW Seattle vs. Georgia Tech vs. UIUC

I am an International student who got into UW Seattle as a direct admit to CS major, Georgia Tech and UIUC for CS. I would be paying full cost of attendance anywhere I go, so that does not matter much. I am inclined towards startups and hence would be great if you can help me figure out which would be the best out of the three.

All 3 universities are outstanding for CS.

The University of Washington & Georgia Tech are located in urban areas. Might be more start-ups in urban areas than in semi-rural areas.

Among the 3 universities, UW has the most attractive–actually beautiful–setting & campus.

Thanks for answering. Isn’t Georgia Tech well known compared to UW? In my country more people know about tech than UW

No, Georgia Tech is not more well known than UW in the US.

With respect to research spending, UW is almost always in the top 5 in the US (Johns Hopkins University is always #1 & the University of Michigan #2.

The University of Washington has been #1 in total research spending funded by the federal government–as opposed to funding by private industry.

Amazon Headquarters & Microsoft HQ are both in the Seattle, Washington area.
None of the links work. Google : “colleges with the highest research and development funding”

https://www.bestcolleges.com/features/colleges-with-the-highest-research-and-development-expenditures/

https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/most-research-money-ranking

https://www.bestcollegesreview.org/top-research-universities/

Sorry, but cannot get the above links to work. First link places UW at #5. Second link shows UW at #1. Third link shows both Georgia Tech & UW among top 20 for undergraduate research opportunities.

P.S. Obviously, I majored in humanities.

Thanks a lot! But I am going to be an undergrad there and the second link mentions best graduate schools, is it the same for both undergrads and grads? Also, m more inclined towards the entrepreneurship aspect rather than research so could you suggest me what would be better in terms of the funding I can get and the incubators, makerspaces etc

Where did u major in humanities from?

A small, rural LAC.

https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/computer-science-overall acc to this, both Georgia Tech and UW rank 5th for CS

The second link refers to medical schools. The third link refers to undergraduate research opportunities.

All 3 universities are outstanding for CS. The Seattle area probably has the most start-ups among the 3 locations.

I cannot answer the other questions. Hopefully other posters will join in & provide more specific information.

Actually, all 3 of your options are tied at #5 for CS.

Where are you from? Depending on that it’s either Seattle or Atlanta
UIUC is more cumbersome to get to …

Thanks!

I aam from India(International Student) :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s the main problem

Wow … equidistant!!!

Pick one … you won’t be wrong … maybe Atlanta slightly closer to
what you’re used to climate-wise?

Yeah and Georgia Tech has more international students too but I don’t know much about UW hence I am a bit confused…UIUC is out of the league due to its location

i’ve heard ppl say UW CS > Georgia Tech CS so idk

That’s not actually true. GTech has the fewest international students among its undergraduates with 10%, while U Washington has 13%, and UIUC has 15% international undergraduates.

For all three, the majority of the international students in CS are Asian, mostly Chinese and Indian.

As for the level of education, the three are equivalent, so it really just depends in which you prefer for other reasons. I think that Seattle has the nicest location, but that is just my preference.

Really! Maybe ik more people at Georgia Tech then! I am actually looking for one with better makerspaces and incubators! Yup, Seattle has a great startup culture as well!

I need help deciding between UW and GT!!
