Hey to whomever reads this, I'm a senior in high school awaiting my decision letter from the UW. I realize the University of Washington does not require a midyear report of senior year grades, but I also know they do ask SOME people to send midyear senior year grades. I am simply wondering what students ARE asked to send midyear grades...are they students considered to be "on the cusp" of being admitted to UW? or special cases? any knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

(P.S. I called the admissions office a few weeks ago asking if there is a way for me to voluntarily send my midyear senior grades--I did particularly well--but they said they don't want them unless they ask for them.)

Just like many other public state universities, you are told not to send in a mid-year report. Your decision is based off your freshman through junior grades. However, being enrolled is a totally different thing. Like many other schools, UW asks for a final transcript to be sent at the end of your senior year to make sure their first impressions of your talent didn’t wain during your your last year. So with that said, don’t slack off. Don’t get a D or multiple C’s or such. If it’s a significant enough change in their mind, I’ve heard the admissions director will send letters of disappointment, and that those people enter already on academic probation. Others get unlucky and get the worst thing any graduating high school student can get: a rescinded acceptance letter. Of course, a very very very small amount of people get rescinded, so relax! Good luck on getting your decision.

Hopin, they’re probably special cases. I don’t personally know anyone who has been asked to send in mid year reports. If anyone has, it would still probably be speculation unless we get a good pool of them to tell us about their stats and situation.

I have never heard of anyone being asked to send in their midyear grades on this board or IRL. Just be patient and I’m sure you will hear back within a few days when I would assume the next wave of letters gets mailed out. Good luck!

Thanks everybody. Got my fingers crossed I get in, especially with two UW alumni for parents…

Unfortunately public schools don’t look at legacy. I’ve had a few friends who came from several generations of husky pride end up getting rejected. They ended up at a CC and transferred later, but legacy can’t tip the game in your favor.

Believe in yourself and what you submitted to UW! Good luck!

@speedsolver really? I was under the impression they do look at legacy, especially since they ask if your parents went to UW on the application. And I remember reading something online saying UW doesn’t care about legacy unless you’re out of state, which I am. Also my parents joined the 150th anniversary club which I was hoping might help me as well.

Oh interesting, I haven’t heard the “unless you’re out of state” part. I’m from in state, so if that is the case, then when the admissions officers that came to visit my school for an info session said that legacy didn’t count, perhaps this was the exception.
