UW Tacoma campus

I'm a little confused about the different branches of UW. From what I've read on this site about the Tacoma campus has got me thinking that UW Tacoma isn't a good option, but I'm still curious. I keep reading that it's not as good as the Seattle campus, and is easier to get into. Wouldn't the level of difficulty be the same because they're both a part of UW? Seems like Tacoma is almost like a community college.

No, it’s not the same. Just like although UC riverside and UC Berkeley are both part of the UC system, their levels of acceptance difficulty are completely different.

Like laypk123 said, UW Tacoma and UW Seattle (as well as UWBothell) are treated as separate universities. That being said, if you plan to one day attend UW Seattle, your transfer application will be treated as a transfer from a completely different institution, not like from community college.

You can take some classes at UW Seattle, but you’ll have to commute and you can’t actually officially transfer over.

Listen to what speedsolver said.

I have a friend that got rejected from uw-seattle and enrolled in uw-bothell thinking that later he would transfer over.

He took some uw-seattle courses until he hit the cap (you can only take up to a certain amount of classes at another campus).

Then he had to officially apply to transfer to uw-seattle as any other transfer student would…being from uw-bothell didn’t make it any easier. In fact they rejected him uw-seattle.

The diploma says “The University of Washington” on it. Looks exactly the same whether you go to the Seattle, Bothell, or Tacoma campus.

What idiot can’t understand the concept of a branch campus? We don’t have different sports teams, and we don’t have different accreditation. It’s not a different university, just a different campus.

Did you guys even graduate from high school?

Everybody’s entitled to do what they wish with their free time, but you need to find a better hobby than digging up year-old threads and posting false information.

" we don’t have different accreditation"

No, some departments in universities do have different accreditations. And some of them don’t have accreditations that UW Seattle has.

It’s just upsetting to read ignorant posts from people who mislead others as to the credibility of the system. It is also disrespectful to downgrade someones education when it is from the same institution.

I graduated from UW-T, and I have a University of Washington degree. NOT a UW Tacoma degree. It is signed by the university president Mark Emmert (2010), and board of regents. When I request official transcripts they come from the administration in Seattle, with the UW logo. When I attended, I could use the library system at Odegaard, or Suzzallo. I could even stay in the dorms if I chose to take a quarter of study in Seattle. I have stayed in Terry Hall twice.

The only false information is concerning the lack of respect by the Seattle campus for the two other campuses in the UW system. I only know of one difference I’ve experienced taking classes at both:

I was not taught by a single graduate student at UWT. All of the faculty had doctorates, and were able to share research opportunities with select students. If anything, I consider it a better education over the Seattle campus.

^^

Lots of people I’ve talked to agree with his assessment. I will let people on here know when I take the Business Minor classes at UW Bothell what my impressions are.

But for sure it’s the same university, the different accreditations you’re talking about are AACSB and ABET and similar and that’s because they accredit the constituent schools, Foster (Seattle), Milgard (Tacoma) and Bothell Business School are different schools within UW.

I don’t know if the Tacoma Social work is considered part of Seattle’s by governance, but I know that they’re all UW.

Although I agree it doesn’t make sense to bring up these old threads.

Wow. You dig up an old thread, call people ignorant and idiots because they disagree with you, and then you talk about being disrespectful?

I was unaware that CC had an etiquette rule on replying to old posts. I am not a forum nerd. I found this thread on google. It was crawled along with other UW Tacoma related search terms, which made it an appropriate topic to correct.

The OP claims that she read on CC that the different campuses weren’t up to the same standards. I think it’s unfortunate that posters couldn’t do a little research, or wait for an informed responder to provide correct information.
