Hello,
I am currently a community college student in California majoring in business administration. I am looking into transferring into either UW Tacoma or Seattle University and I don’t see many posts discussing the differences and the pros and cons of each school. I don’t care for partying but would like to make some friends and am interested in joining a club. I am a minority so it would be nice to go to a school that is accepting and friendly towards minority groups. But really my main concern is finding a good job after graduating. Which school looks better on a resume? Any input would be great
Why these two universities and not one of the excellent California public universities?
What’s the net cost at each?
I’d say UW Tacoma is more commuter than Seattle U, but you should check availability of upper-level courses in your major at Seattle U.
If you are a community college student in California, why would you not transfer into one of the UCs or CSUs? UW-Tacoma is a branch campus of the main UW and costs $50K. Seattle U is a good school, but an expensive private, and the total yearly cost of attendance is $60K. It also doesn’t meet full financial need and is unlikely to offer a whole lot of financial aid to a transfer student, unless there are some special transfer scholarships (I honestly don’t know).
By comparison, a UC would cost you around $33-35K, and would frankly be a better university than UW-Tacoma. A CSU would be even cheaper - between $20K and $25K depending on which one you chose.
Seattle U does have a great business school, and it has a good regional reputation in the Pacific Northwest. I’m not sure one would necessarily be considered better than the other outside of WA, OR and maybe northern CA and western ID.
I would take Seattle U’s Albers b-school over UW Tacoma.
