Why does it seem that UW (or U Dub) doesnt seem to get all the credit it deserves?

I believe UW to be an outstanding school, especially with research and within the medical depts. but why isn't is as great of a state school as UVA or UNC? What makes them better than UW? Whenever i tell people i want to go to UW, they always question that school as compared to another school (preferably private). As a state school, i found UW to be great for so many reasons. it's even ranked in the US News Report (#45) and beats many other popular, well-know, and what seems to be overated private institutions.

So then why is it so UNDER-rated?????

i guess its ranking.

UW is very washington focused - only 10% are from out of state. therefore, it does not have a lot of outside influence.. its very regional, so to speak. the UW medical school is known throughout the country, however.

Also, UW is not extremely selective. their acceptance rate hovers around 68%... UW's SAT score ranges are a lot lower than those of UVa, UNC, or Berkeley. obviously, less selective = less ratings.

I think UW doesn't get have the credit it deserves, especially at instate competitive high schools (trust me...I know........I go to one). I think its sad and even though I wish to go out of state...its not b/c UW isn't "good enough" which is something I hear many people say. So for those of you instate...appreciate what you have b/c its pretty awesome. And those looking at it seriously...its an awesome school so go for it!

I think University of Washington is ranked quite high in the World University Rankings.

Conclusion: Rankings are too subjective..
