What is the job opportunities and internships between UW and Cornell, UCLA Bekeley in computer science major? Any advise or input? Thanks.

Berkeley is obviously the most prestigious school with the best computer science department and its location in Silicon Valley. There are a ton of high tech companies which recruit from Berkeley, every company wants a Berkeley computer science grad. For specifically computer science, UW would be more well known than Cornell but only slightly. UCLA is without a doubbt the least well known because, unlike the rest of these colleges, it is not known for its computer science department.

In what aspect? We have very differing cultures, research opportunities, etc. What might be “better” for one person may be a terrible fit for another.

Silicon Valley companies don’t just hire from the area. We always get company reps and recruiters flying up to UW for a day to just recruit.

You say this as if the job opportunities from UW CSE students absolutely sucks and/or is a lot worse than Cal. I disagree… greatly. Honestly, any great school will have limitless opportunities. Each school also has different cultures, which influences what types of companies may ‘recruit harder.’

For example, Stanford has a start up culture. UW has a big mix, which opens up many different opportunities for interning at different sized companies that have different goals. I can’t speak for Cal’s cs program in general - the only people I know who attend Cal have only worked at Amazon or are studying pre-med.

Job opportunities aren’t just limited to [Current Affiliate Members | Computer Science & Engineering](Current Affiliate Members | Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering). We get a few emails of new CS job postings every morning from companies looking for CSE students to hire.

Speedsolver, why you wanna kick my ass in every thread? QQ

Here’s a hug to compensate! :P

Thanks, speedover and bwwinthehouse for information.

I’d say UC Berkeley > UW/Cornell > UCLA for specifically CS.

I’d argue that there’s very little difference between UCB/UW/Cornell as far as job opportunities and internships go. They’re all top-10 schools. What matters more is your personal aptitude (e.g. the projects you work on, how well you can prepare for interviews, etc).
