UW vs. NYU

i'm OOS. i need to make the decision by tomorrow. i need help. i need someone who likes both. please help now.

what’s your financial aid situation? Or is that not even a factor for you?

its not a factor. the difference would only be about 10,000 dollars, which isn’t a big deal because since i’m going to be paying around 200,000 for 4 years anyway.

Hi, I recently went to visit both schools and I decided that I liked UW better. I am out of state also. The difference for me was the fact that UW has a real campus, sports teams and even a mascot! It seems like UW is much more of your traditional college experience. NYU is a highly ranked university, but it didn’t feel like one. If you are at all athletic even more the reason to go to UW. NYU has no grassy fields or anything like that. The only pro for NYU is that it is a bit better school, but I guess that depends on what you want to major in. Both campuses are in a city, but UW has a campus, NYU not so much. I walked through NYU and there were literally like 20 NYU signs spread across like 20 blocks of city. But if it is purely academic and nothing else, I think I would choose NYU. Hope this helps!

i think that 10,000 per year does make a difference, unless you are taking student loans out anyways. also, i think there is no reason to pass up the big city life at nyu but i think that in general everything will be more expensive at nyu - food, apartments (when you move off campus), etc. BUT like i said sometimes you have to do what is going to be the best experience and sacrifice the money

also, i think that it really depends on if you want a balance between a college town and a big city - that is uw.
academically, nyu has more prestige but certain majors at uw may be better - i am not sure but maybe science/bio/chem/engineering etc may be better at uw.
ofcourse, nyu will have more extracirricular activities, off campus life, fun things to do etc. it just depends, do you think you will be able to enjoy the city or do you want to be more focused on school only?

i dont know, like nyu has been my dream school since about the 5th grade, and then i really visited and i didn’t like that there wasn’t any real sense of school, you know? but then i visited UW (which i applied to as backup) and i absolutely loved it. there are a lot of positive aspects to living in a big city, but i also want nature, and mt. rainier absolutely blew me away. i feel like if i ever get bored in seattle, i’ll always be dreaming of big city life. but i feel like if i ever am unhappy in new york with how it coul dbe percieved as a “cold” city, that i’ll regret not running to washington.

also i live in california and i feel like washington might be too close (same time zone)
but yeah money is def. not a factor for me.

also if UW was ranked higher or as high as NYU on us news, uw would probs be a yes.

so you got me all curious about the rankings as well, not just of these schools but just schools in general haha so i looked it up and NYU was number 33 while UW is 41. not that big of a difference really…us news gives each school a “score” nyu had a 64 and uw a 59, so there really isn’t a huge discrepancy between the two. if you know what you want to study i would use that as a tool to decide because they are each strong in different departments.

i want to dub major in sociology and business and minor in english. i know it would be literally impossible to do this at nyu, but it’s nyu. right now i am leaning towards uw. i have 4 hours wihch i am going to make use of by finishing an essay and meditating really hard.

You are saying you like UW more, so go with UW. It is a great school, the difference in rankings between UW and NYU is negligible.

NYU is great, but not if you don’t want to be dropped right in the middle of a mega city and want to experience a traditional college life with real campus setting. I vote UW for you!

i am going to udub i am so excited. so so so so excited yayayayayayayay.
