i agree, the UC schools are amazing, especially Irvine. Like it was said above me, if there is some specific major you want then compare schools through taht, but i would definitely have to say go to a UC school if you have the chance.

The difference between UCI and UW is negligible in terms of reputation. If you can afford UW, then go to UW as your pros for UW seem far better than UCI. I’d go with UW, it seems that you like it more.

UCI, youd be saving your family alot of money and you wont have to pay off as many student loans in the future, unless your family can pay for the whole oos tuition

mcf11 and Iloveyoudub, it’s pretty obvious that you are suggesting UCI to keep UW an exclusively instater school. i mean seriously, you think i wouldn’t notice with your username and location? nice try though…

basically, it’s this: can you afford oos tuition for uw? yes, then go to UW. no, then UCI.

“afford” can mean many ways, whether your family is financially capable, got some good aid or you’re willing to pay off the larger loans.

outside CA, the name UCI isn’t as famous as Berkeley or LA. so another factor to consider, where do you want to live after college? if you want to live in CA, UCI might be better but if you want to live in WA, UW would be more favored.

I had to choose between UCLA or UW, in the end I went with UW because I know I can go there and enjoy college without having to worry about money (I’m WA resident). So if you got the money, go where you want to go.

Definitely go to UW! I mean who really wants to be an anteater? But seriously it is a way better school, way better sports, way better location, way better transportation, way better academics. How can you not go to UW?

if you don’t want certain opinions, don’t ask for them. if i were in that situation i would go to the uc school. if you’re this offended that people like me and iloveyoudub gave you our opinions, maybe you actually have something against uc or already really want uw, in which case why ask? go where you want, and don’t get so hung up on opinions when you ask for them in the first place.

lol beaverhouse…you need to make this decision on your own with your parents…why are going to get advice from a discussion board? I mean MAY 1st is this friday and you still haven’t decided?? Thats a real pity, by now you should’ve signed up for housing and if you already for UW, then I’m 100% sure you’re going there…There’s no sense depositing 500 dollars to a school you’re still CONSIDERING…And if you are really into UW go for it, you don’t need other people to tell you that…By the way, good luck with out of state tuition, you won’t find out till the summer(after May 1st) how much you’re going to pay…

seaboy…you have to understand this is a difficult decision for me. im really torn because theyre two completely different schools both with something to offer. not sure what i want to study, so i need to make an informed decision.

VolleyBall and Baseball?? XD, not even the players own mothers care about those sports. The only sports that matter are mens football and basketball, in a respectable league (pac10, big12, SEC, ACC, ect…)

If financial isn’t a factor, UW is a no-brainer. First of all, most UCs are over rated these days due to there are large number of in-state and international applicants. The low acceptance rate doesn’t mean the schools’ quality are great, (yes, they are good, but not great). It’s because of the cheap in-state tuition and international students are just like to study in California. Perhaps the current students can give real feedback about the schools quality and the graduates can tell if the education can lead them to great careers, better future than other universities. Just because it’s hard to get in doesn’t mean it’s good.
If you do some research about UW and visit the campus, you will know it’s a way better school than UCLA. So a student from the east coast accepted by both schools, UW is a better choice when the tuition is in the same range. Not even close.
When you are on UW campus, you can’t believe this is actually a public school. The facilities are the best, there are both modern and historical buildings that tell you this is a rich university, there are ample resources for each student. Comparing to UW, all UCs facilities are out of date, they do remind you UCs are broke in every detail. Just watch UC dorms vs UW dorms on youtube, you get the idea of you pay for what you get at UCs.
If you study certain majors such as CSE (computer science engineering) or other engineering related majors, UWs are at the level of UCB in terms of academic level and reputations among the Silicon Valleys. In high tech and tech startup circuits, no one really compares UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCD to UW. UCLA has good overall reputation but engineering and CS are by no means to have the good reputation as UW neither.
Most UCs get you good (not great) education at very cheap price. That price reward ratio may be the best in the world. But that can never hide the cheap education’s problem. They produce mediocre graduates who usually are average dudes in the industry.
