UW vs UM computer science. Help me! Urgent.

First I’m sorry for posting multiple threads regarding similar topics. But I am still not sure which school would be better. I am going to make my decision tomorrow and any input until so will be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

UW Seattle Computer Science

  • Great CS program
  • Not such a good college in general
  • A lot of companies around & great for getting jobs

UM Ann Arbor Computer Science (LSA, not engineering)

  • OK computer Science program
  • Great college in general
  • Not sure about getting stable and well paying jobs

Things to consider:

  • I want to continue onto higher education, probably masters degree
  • Stable job and good salary is prefered
  • I currently live in Seattle so moving could be troublesome

Things not to consider:

  • Price and costs. I have enough money to go to either college without debt.

Thank you so much

For Washington, do you have direct admission to the CS major?

Yeah I am a transfer student and is directly admitted as junior

With direct admission to the CS major, seems like Washington is more favorable for post graduation job searching, unless you want to work in the automotive industry.

Um, the University of Washington is an excellent university, so I don’t really understand your second bullet under UW.

On the other hand, Michigan has an excellent computer science program, not just an “OK” one. So I don’t get the first bullet there either.

And you don’t have to stay and work where you go to college. I work at Microsoft and there are lots of Michigan grads here. There are lots of Michigan grads everywhere.

Just because you can easily afford both without debt doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider costs. If you are a WA resident, UW is likely to be a fraction of the cost of UM. If you have all that as cash saved up, you could save the additional cash to do something else - like security deposits on apartments, buying a car, a down payment on a house, new shoes, whatever.

There are a couple of other things to separate them:

UW is, obviously, in Seattle - a thriving large city. The university is in the heart of the city. UM is in a small college town - a thriving, popular college town an hour from Detroit, but still a college town. Where do you want to spend the next two years?
