UW vs UW Madison vs Purdue vs NYU vs UC Davis for Data Science

Plenty of good options, but I would definitely go with direct admit or uncapped.

So that’s Davis, NYU, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

Davis’s program is new, so we don’t know much about it.

NYU and Wisconsin are highly regarded and established, and I trust Purdue with anything STEM-related.

So I’d say NYU, Purdue, or Wisconsin.

If you were to change majors, it’s likely that NYU and Wisconsin have more available than Purdue, since they would offer more breadth outside of STEM. But Purdue isn’t exactly short on majors either.

So – Wisconsin, Purdue or NYU. They are totally different environments, vibes, locations… and visiting likely will quickly help you decide.

  • Big rah-rah, traditional-campus Big Ten schools highly regarded in the US and globally: UW and Purdue.

There is more to do around Madison than West Lafayette if you are into fun and cultural activities, but I’m sure Purdue has its own charms.

or

  • Big private NYC school, with really no defined campus, highly regarded in the US and globally: NYU

(I’m not saying that you should rule out the Huskies and UC-Davis – but it will be harder to get into the major at the first, and the second is offering this program for the first time. There may be growing pains.)

Agree that NYU has lion share of fintech jobs due to its proximity to wall street. However, I think a west coast college like the University of Washington or Davis would have the lions share of general tech startups for internships and things. I also like the fact that NYU is one of the few colleges that has a CS and DS double major, which makes it easier to land internships and eventual jobs. The wild card in all of this is CMU, as my son got waitlisted there and if he can get off the waitlist, he would attend CMU as his first choice.
