UW Welcome Packet

Anyone get there welcome packets yet? I live 15 minutes from Seattle and got my admission letter on the 15th..but nothing else since...

None here yet OOS

Arrived today with a March 20 postmark (live about 40 minutes south of UW). It contains a welcome brochure and paperwork to confirm or decline enrollment. Yours should arrive shortly!

On a side note… sibling received the exact same thing last year, with nothing in the welcome packet about Foster direct admit. This came in an email within a few days of the welcome packet. Hang in there!

Got mine. Sounds like you can post the deposit online, but the link is in the fine print of the brochure.

Got mine (in-state). Unfortunately, it says pre-science major (applied for CSE DA). If that major really is the case, I won’t be considering their offer. Also you can mail or fill out the deposit and intent online or via mail.

I’m still hoping that I will receive a DA letter for CSE in the mail shortly.

@KosherBacon fingers crossed for all of us…

Got my welcome packet…got pre-science. I took all pre-reqs through running start, very disappointed.

FYI: Taking prereqs in high school doesn’t make you more competitive for direct admit. Prior programming experience isn’t mandatory and plenty of people who did internships in high school (e.g. Microsoft HS Intern Program) aren’t admitted as direct admit.

It would make a whole lot of sense if it did, I am 2 years ahead of everyone else…that wasn’t very easy to do. I spent my high-school life doing CS projects, calculus, engineering physics, and college english class essays, all of that for nothing? Who does get in?

Does anyone know how many “pre engineering” students they take? Btw D’s welcome packet came today post marked Mar 19.

@NinRash: Unfortunately, that’s not how admissions works. However, you sound like you’d be competitive for upper division admissions if you keep your grades up at UW and write a good personal statement. Direct admits are usually those who show a lot of potential; they’re not necessarily people with the most amount of cs experience before college. It’s pretty complicated and I can’t give a great answer to exactly what they look for nowadays since I don’t sit on the admissions committee.

@Sudsmom: Anyone who listed an engineering major as their intended major who didn’t get direct admit will be pre-engineering. You’re not barred from taking other courses though, like Business, Biology, etc… “Pre-engineering” is kind of like a placeholder.

got my welcome packet today in houston

Received my Welcome Packet two days ago. around 30-40 minutes away from UW

Anyone from the east coast get theirs yet?

Live in Nevada. Haven’t received the welcome packet yet:(

@UniversityHugger Here in New York, got it yesterday. Postmarked on the 19th.

@phruitpie Thank you! Ill hopefully get it by tomorrow <3

East coast still waiting here.

My S received his admission package yesterday. It said that he is admitted to the Pre-Science major in Art and Science College. He applied to Computer Science major. I thought that is in Engineering College. It sounds like that is not the case. He really likes the engineering side of it. Are you guys talking about the same CS major in Art and Sci Collage? or is there another CS major in College of Engineering?

@RiverSong123 DOCTORWHO W00T

I would just refer to this, as it gives that information better than I can explain.
http://www.washington.edu/students/gencat/academic/comp_sci.html</a></p>

I do believe that CS is only offered in the Computer Science and Engineering department (CSE), not the arts and sciences.
I assume that means he did not get direct admission into computer science, but did get general admissions in the sense that he could easily apply for computer science once he completes the pre-reqs. (Assuming he does well in terms of GPA)

Hope that helps :)
