@socalsea if you don’t mind my asking, what do you think exactly about your essay do you think helped? Did you focus more about yourself and what you could bring to UW or did you talk more about why you want to transfer and what UW offers to you? I feel like my reason for wanting to transfer isn’t good enough so I’m really stuck on how to market myself to them.

Okay guys I got into UW Bothell. It’s down the road from my house so I’m pretty tempted to go there over Western. Of course I plan to try to transfer to Seattle two more times before I give up. If my application is rejected this time I will definitely work on my essay. Thanks guys.

For the record, my transcript didn’t change. It still says “non-matriculated” It’s interesting how the UW Bothell application says when they’ve finished evaluating but UW Seattle doesn’t. That was the only heads up I got that I was about to get a decision from Bothell. My parents have lost hope in Seattle at this point but I’m not giving up just yet! I do plan to meet with admissions counselors if I receive a rejection to figure out my best course of action.

Hi @justin3co congrats on getting into UW Bothell!

When i met with a transfer advisor from UW they told me that students attempting to transfer from a 4 year university had lower priority when applying and students who are at another UW campus have an even lower chance of getting admitted. Certainly not impossible if you have a compelling reason to change campuses but very difficult.

On another semi related note, I do know that you can take up to a certain number of credits from other UW campuses

@justin3co

Congratulations!
If this time does not work out, it does not hurt to try again! :)

So I registered for an A&O this morning and received my confirmation e-mail, but my MyUW page is showing that I have yet to register for an A&O. Should I be worried?

@UWchancemeh
No worries, it takes a day or two to show up, like everything else. The measles thing took 10 days! Which one are you attending? I have finals so I had to pick the 12th.

@Husky1995

Oh okay!
Thanks.
I chose December 17th because my Fall grades are not available until the 16th.
My friend told me that they feed you WELLLLLL. HAHA

I registered for A&O for the 15th. My measles info populated the next day, after I emailed it in. I also applied for housing, will probably be on west campus. Also, my financial aid award showed up-- all loans, less the EFC. I don’t know how they expect my mother to eat, given what she’s expected to contribute. Oh well, the woes of being middle class.

@recycle15

Great!
I just e-mailed my UW Measles Immunization Requirement Form, hopefully it updates tomorrow.
West Campus > North Campus ;)

I got an email from the UW Seattle financial aid last night. It said that I could not receive financial aid because I was enrolled in the UW as a “non-matriculated” student or “in a program not eligible for financial aid”. It said that “if you have been recently admitted as a matriculated student in an eligible degree or certificate program, contact our office to see if your status has been changed”. I think this has to do with my transcript status. I did not get this email the last time I tried to transfer. Do you think that this might be a good sign?

@justin3co

That may be a good sign.
I received an e-mail regarding my financial aid status about an hour after my unofficial transcript loaded, and that was about a week before my official letter arrived.
You should look out for an e-mail about housing as well.

So based on your acceptance letters, what date should we expect the next admission letters to arrive? Also, how many days before that should I get an email about housing if I was accepted?

@justin3co

The deadline to commit to UW was December 1, 2014 (today) for the most recent batch.
I received an e-mail about housing the same day that my transcript loaded.

@UWchancemeh Still no email about housing. It’s kind of a bummer but it’s only Tuesday. I’m hoping for something to come up in a day or two.

It is with great pleasure to announce that I will be attending the University of Washington Seattle for the Winter Quarter 2015.

@justin3co

YES!
CONGRATS!
Was rooting for you.

@justin3co congrats!! Do you mind sharing anything that may have helped you as an OOS Four year transfer this time around? I’m planning on transferring for fall 2015 and need all the help I can get haha

@browneyedgirl95 Yeah. It is a holistic application process so every aspect counts. However, I cannot stress a very strong essay. I believe the essay is number one. And then GPA is a close second. The first time around, I wrote my essay while I was feeling emotional. It made me look like I was too critical of the school, even though it was truly how I felt. It just made me look a little immature in general. The second time around, I used a very personal experience I had with my Mom who works as an RN and used that as an explanation to why I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. I would say that little anecdote I put in there was very heartfelt and inspiring. If you make them feel who you really are, they will want to accept you, even if you’re a four year OOS transfer. Even with a significantly improved GPA from my fall freshman year to spring freshman year, it wasn’t enough to get accepted. Again, the essay is crucial!!

@UWchancemeh Thank you very much. This is the greatest early Christmas gift that I could ask for. I’ll see you over there in January!! Also, how do I submit my NSEOF? Can it be done online or do I need to mail in a check? Alternatively, is there an office my parents can go to and drop off at the UW? I’m in California right now and can’t do much on my end over here.

@justin3co

Unfortunately, you cannot submit your NSEOF online.
You must either send a check or a money order, which is payable to the (University of Washington).
The easiest route to take is to fill out your confirmation form, slip the check/money order in, and pack everything into the pre addressed envelope that came along with your packet.
Also, I would suggest filling out your measles form as soon as possible, you want to make sure that it enters the database before your A&O.
Maybe I’ll run into you at A&O or somewhere around UW.
Best of luck to you, Justin! (That’s my name as well haha)
