UWC 2012 anyone?

First off, who else is applying to a UWC college this year, where from etc.? (I'm applying from the UK)

I'm a bit worried about getting in since so many apply and everyone else applying seems to do more extra curriculars than is humanly possible (with sleep)!

Second, any one tell me my chances on getting in? I know it can be boring but you'd be the awesomest person ever if you did! :)
Ec's: Help out at local community/ youth centre, in a project of community heritage, play guitar, piano and trumpet, dance, drama shows, write songs and in a band, horseriding and have a job at a care home, do political demos etc.
Grades: We don't get our final grades till we do the last exams in may but predicted As in everything. I have no idea what that is equivalent to in America :O

Hey newperson! I intend to apply to UWC this year, and I’m from New Jersey:) I’m so excited for the application to become available! Good luck, I hope you get in! Do you know which of the colleges you would prefer?

Hey guys,
I intend to apply to UWC this year from New Jersey as well! Good luck to both of you  As for chances, I heard for applying in USA, its a 10-12.5% admission rate (400-500 apply and 50 accepted). It’s not 100% necessary to have a million extra-curriculars. I read some alumni notes who said they had never done community service nor large amounts of extra-curriculars prior to attending UWC. I honestly don’t have a whole lot of extra-curriculars myself but I think I got a good shot. randompanda4, My list for the top 5 is as follows: USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Netherlands.
Out of curiosity, what test scores are you submitting? I’m taking the SATs this saturday.

Hey:) I’m submitting just my psat scores, because that is the only ones I will know in time to submit them. There is limited space though to list ec’s, I was a little disappointed. My top 5 are Italy, Norway, UK, Canada, USA. Good Luck!

There is a limit??? I haven’t really stated filling in the application yet. What is the max number of ec’s?

Well on mine it wont let my list more than 6. But you could probably find some way to work them into the questions it asks. Thats what I did :P

There are threads in the Prep School forum about UWC!

Hey
Joining you all from California!
I’m so excited, I’ve been wanting to apply for years
Is it bad that I get butterflies when I talk about UWCs? haha

I just took the SATs Saturday, I haven’t gotten them back, but I’ll be submitting PSAT or SATs, depending on whichever I didn’t do as bad on :)

Totally indecisive on ranking the colleges, I’m thinking UK, Norway, Costa Rica, Hong Kong as my top 4… :)

I think it’d be awesome to keep this just as a place for all the people actually applying to use?

By the way, has anybody actually talked to a real person who’s gone to a UWC? I’ve read blogs and seen videos and so on, but I don’t actually know anyone! :)

I know several people in my school who have gone to a UWC. From what I know, it seems like community service is a huge part of the application process!

My daughter is currently at UWC USA. The UWC students usually reply to prospectives on their Facebook page. I can’t remember if it is under UWC or United World College. Good luck!

Wow, that’s awesome that you guys are applying too! @randompanda4 my top 5 are probably Norway, USA, Costa Rica, Holland and Canada
Good luck everyone :)

I’m applying too from MD, USA! I am freaking out over this except trying not to become obsessed because I don’t want to get my dreams crushed… How’d everyone hear about it? My top 5 are USA, Canada, India, Italy, China. (Not in that order) Oh and has anyone figured out when exactly the app is due in Jan? I keep looking but it just says Jan. I hate the fact they limit our activities to 6 and I’m afraid of listing the books because I’ve been swamped with so much stuff recently I haven’t had time to pick up and read anything… Good luck everyone!

I’m a current student at UWC-USA and an admissions intern. I’d be happy to answer any questions y’all have about the admissions process. :)

@kameronsmith

I was wondering what kind of things they want you to write int he personal statement? I’m applying from england and one of our questions is a 5000 character personal statement  Just feel like I’ve started too many sentences with ‘I’ and am ramling a bit? Any tips?

Hi all you guys,
This will be also an applicant from Vietnam for 2012 intake! My first choice is Pearson College, Canada! :).

I wrote mine about ambiguity and American foreign policy, but I think really anything can work so long as it reveals your charactar and intelligence. However, I do think it’s important to have a driving focus, with the two most effective styles being a single story from your life and an analysis of one particular phenomonon. But really, it’s just a personal statement, so look at all the advice for college personal statements on this forum for some help. Also, do try to rephase sentences so that they don’t all start with “I.”

Hey everyone  How y’all doing now that finals are coming up? :)

Oh, I had a question @kameronsmith!

In the First Online page, it asks: Other language(s) you know and your and degree of proficiency (read/write/speak).

Should I write down languages I’m learning right now, like if I’m in Spanish 3? Because I can kind of read/write/speak Spanish, but obviously not fluently, and it doesn’t say to write how well you do know the language?

Thanks! :)

This has been the most stressful week of my life. Just as an fyi of what UWC is like, I have 3 papers due today, in addition to a test. The rest of my week is equally tough.

I would go ahead and put Spanish—I put French when I applied. They’ll realize that you’re learning it (and at what level) from your transcript.

And, if anyone hasn’t seen this, there’s a Facebook Discussion Board (mostly for USA applicants, though!) here [United World College-USA Discussions | Facebook](Facebook)
:)

Is anyone else having problems fitting their activities into the first box, under Activity? Mine cuts off after 20 letters! It’s kinda hard (impossible! ) to fit Future Business Leaders of America into that! Should I continue the name of the Activity in the positions/awards box?

Thanks! :)

I hope you’re having more sleep/less stress @kameronsmith!!! :)
