UWC applicants year 2014

Hello!

Good luck to you all! So excited I found others as interested as me in UWC! hehehe!
Where are y’all from?

@santoast13, Yup, Im applying this year! Who knows, maybe we’ll end up at the same college next year  I’m so excited!

@farmgirlmoo, Hi!! It is pretty exciting finding others as interested in the UWCs as everyone here is! I know at my school no one evens knows about them, so being here is awesome. Im from the US, DC-area. What about you?

@tecz77 it’s crazy exciting! I’ve got butterflies and everything!!! haha! I’m from Wales, in the UK! and snap! there’s just one boy at my school who knows about it, and he’s so sweet! every time i see him he’s like “I believe in you” aw bless his cotton socks :’) haha!

@Hedwig8 i might be the girl from instagram, if it is me, chill! I’ve sent my application, but it’s nowhere near as good as what everyone posts on here! you’ll be fine, honey!

FINGERS CROSSED WE ALL GET IN :)

@tecz77 I hope so soo much!

I’m actually kind of glad that not many people no about these schools. I haven’t met anyone in my school who knows about them, but if I did I would be even more stressed. There are about four of us tied for top of the class right now and my guidance counselor told me first hand that my class is crazy smart. Less competition, though I would like to obsess with someone about it. I guess that’s why I’m here haha.

You know what though, on the application my essay is already completed and edited, the only thing I’m struggling with is the short answers. Turns out what I thought would be easiest is actually the hardest.

Aha small world huhh??

Thanks. I will definitely try that. Good luck to you guys!

Yeah, it is a small world. :)

I’m so excited now, here in the UK, we find out if we have an interview by mid December! I’m dreading it, but also so excited! Ahhhhhh…

It would be amazing if we met people from here in college though! Or even at interviews! I love making friends, and i have this theory; if enough people are friends with people in different countries, then there’d be less war! it might just be wishful thinking on my part… But i hope it’s true! Wouldn’t it be great if there was world harmony???

Sorry… I go off topic a lot! Hahaha oh gosh!

So which colleges did u put on the top of your lists? I would love to go to UWC RCN but I lose circulation pretty easily in cold weather so it may not be a great idea…

I am also very happy for this thread. Full of people who are as interested as you which means that we all understand what the others are going through. I find it nice that we can discuss things here.
I read that when you hear others’ grades and ECs and so on some of you think you don’t have chances. I say believe in yourselves. It is funny that I am saying it because I have never believed in myself enough before. Once at a concert I heard a girl playing the flute and I found it so nice. I was about to accompany my choir on flute. I immediately thought I was going to be awful after her. In the end I was told that they found me better. Later on at an other concert (this time solo with piano accompaniment) I told myself that I can do it, I have to believe in myself. And that concert was one of my best performances. Sorry for this long story, the only thing I wanted to say is that we have to believe in ourselves. (Sorry for my mistakes.)

In the UK, we don’t choose our choices until the interviews i think… but in my head, i like Mahindra, Waterford Kamhlaba, and Mostar! my main reason for that is the subjects available!

@MediDuet that story is beautiful! :)

It is pretty awesome to be able to communicate with all of you and I really hope we all get in! Im also glad that not many people know about the UWCs, because the competition is already so tough! Y’all are very formidable people
And I second what MediDuet says! We all just need to believe in ourselves and not get nervous about everyone else’s grades and ECs. I know how hard this is, especially after reading everyone’s qualifications! And I totally get your story Mediduet, I’ve psyched myself out that way many times
Also, do all of you guys have class rankings? I know my school doesnt give out class rankings because we’re so highly competitive that there would probably be a few murders of we did… Or at least sabotage
On a slightly unrelated note, are any of you guys answering “no preference” for college? I know I just cant decide, even though I’ve done a ton of research on each one…

Hey guys! I’m new but I’m super excited for applications to come out soon~~ I’m in Canada but I really! REALLY want to go to Pearson College. :)

MediDuet I know exactly what you mean; I’ve done it myself a few times in piano recitals. And it definitely applys here too! I got nervous writing my essay after reading about how smart you all are, but when I asked other people to read my essay, they loved it. I didn’t think it was that great because I heard about other people’s formats, but people said that it connected so well on a personal level, and is something that very few understand unless they’ve experienced it. So I was stressing so much only to find out that I did something good!

Tecz77 we got our class rankings last month, although our grade is very competitive, not so much the school though. But it was amazing that there were four of us in first right now and who knows how many in second. I think that if you truly need your rank, since it asks the percentage on the application, that you should ask your counselor. I got my rank earlier that way.
However, I didn’t put no preference down because my mom wanted me to put them in a specific order. She wanted ones closer to home first, and from there told me which ones she didn’t want me to go to and put them last. It’s a little upsetting since the ones I want to go to are a little lower and some of the ones towards the bottom I actually wanted to consider, but I really don’t care where I go, as long as I get accepted! I’ll be happy no matter where I am!

@awkwardbirdie918, Welcome! Always nice to have new people on here! Have your applications really not come out yet?
@Sanotoast13, my theory was also that I’ll be happy wherever, but I guess I do have some preferences too. Althought I am getting a bit ahead of myself, as I havent even finished my application yet :)

@farmgirlmoo, thank you! :slight_smile:
I am sorry but I don’t really get what class rankings really are. Here we don’t have anything like that. Does that mean how good you are in your class?
Our application form doesn’t ask our preferences. Mine are Adriatic and RCN. But I would be happy at any of them. My mum doesn’t want me to go colleges out of Europe, she said she won’t let me go enev if I get in. But I really like Li Po Chun. :)

Ohh, and it seems that quite a lot of people play the piano here. I play the piano also. :)

@tecz77 thanks! our applications are supposed to come out “early November”, so right now I’m kind of dying inside… Been refreshing the page nonstop haha. Also read the whole thread from last year (like 86pages whaaaaat.) and been reading random stuff on how to write good essays hahaha trying to prep myself before they do come out. >.<

@tecz77 yea I haven’t finished either I’m stuck on the short answers.

@MediDuet sort of. Class ranks basically compare you to the rest of your class/grade. If you are number one you have the highest GPA/grades. If you are number one your senior year you are valedictorian. At least, that’s how it works in the US

@Santoast13, thank you! Now I know what that is. I have been number one ever since high school started. (It sounds high-minded, and I don’t want it to. ) I haven’t said it before to anyone (apart from family) because others would talk about me in a wrong way. But that is what I need for Uni so I am ok with that.
And also, there is a site called essayforum. c o m
There everyone shares their essays and others write down their opinions about the essay. I have found UWC application essays there as well so I think you should check them out. That is what I did during applications last year while waiting for this year’s applications. :)
