@RipCity14 you should call or email your national committee and find out. I would actually be too young to apply only by a few months but I emailed them and they said it was ok. So you can try.

My cousin’s an alumni she knew even 20 year olds who went soo…

@randomzzz @tecz77 thank you both we’ll see!

@farmgirlmoo Yeah you deff have a better chance of getting in than me - ure so nice and prepared and stuff :)

I am seventeen now and will be eighteen by the time I could start and it is ok here. Our rule is that you can’t be older than 19 in the September of your first year. But because I attended a different educatinal system I will be two months older (born in July). This is why this year is my only chance. I can’t apply next year officially. But after reading that somebody emailed them and she/he could apply I might email them next year if I don’t get in this year.

@Hedwig8 don’t be silly! i do zero ECs compared to you all!!! and i’m not prepared oh gosh hahah! i hope we both get in! would be great :)

@farmgirlmoo that would be amaaazing and ikr the Americans are like all literally perfect garh

@Hedwig8 hahaha yeah! you too though! i must seem like the laziest person on earth to everyone here hahahaha:’)

See, this is the problem with this thread. The more I look, the more I realize how bad my chances of getting in are! The comparing must stop And I was just reading a blog and came across a reference to a students 21st birthday while at college, and it seemed like it wasnt the only one…

Is there anyone here who is going to or has gone to UWC who can comment on the age differences at the school? I would only be 16 if I got to go to UWC and others would be like 20.

Okp1000 I’ll only be 16 too. I was born in April.

Honestly, I believe all of you on this thread have the potential to get in
and I’m also interested in the age differences! I would also be 16 :)

@okp1000, I would also be 16, so I was curious about the age differences, too. While I have no personal experience, from what I can understand from reading blogs is that while the majority of the students are 16-18, there are some older/younger, but age doesnt appear to be that big of a deal at any of the colleges… Especially in those located near towns rather than integrated into them, as they have more of a isolated campus-y feel, where as students spend more time hanging out in the towns when they’re integrated into them (if they’re integrated into towns certain activities- such as drinking- obviously wouldnt be legal for all of the students, creating a divide in activities due to age).
(also, according to Wikipedia, “Hahn envisaged a college educating boys and girls of age 16 to 20,” so maybe there is more of an age gap then I’ve noticed)

@teczz77, I think the students in this thread all have a very high chance. I mean, we are so in love in UWC that we searched for this thread, read every single message and read like all 80 pages of the last year’s thread. People in here, including moi, seriously LOVE UWC and want to be part of it :D

Does anyone know what percentage of people actually get in? I know someone really smart who would be a good fit for the school get rejected the first time round, and someone really, and I mean really dumb get in on the first try.

@bellath, how true your last post is! It perfectly desribes all of us.

Wow I looked at the thread for last year and their 376th post is on the top of the 26th page just like ours. How interesting. :)

I am also very curious about their admissions criteria. I know my SAT’s and grades are not the best, and my extracurriculars are OK, so I am super scared. But one of the ex Board Member is a good friend of my mom’s, and she (the ex Board Member) said I have a great chance, and she even wanted to write me a rec letter :p…

I think they choose people based on how they will cope and benefit from the experience, for example, there may be a person with outstanding grades and ECs but would simply not be able to cope. There will also be people who’s grades are just average, and don’t do many ECs, but are passionate about something, and would thrive in a UWC. There is no one selection criteria, i believe it truly depends upon the individual. I read somewhere that they like people to have a passion. sorry, this is just my opinion, but… yeah! :)

The thing that worries me is that in Jamaica the standardized test we do like the SAT doesn’t happen until after I would’ve already applied. So I don’t know how they would compare students from different schools because schools here have such varying standards.
@Ripcity14 To find out what the percentage of people who get accepted you can ask your national committee because it varies from country to country. I know here it is about 10%
