UWC applicants year 2014

@MediDuet I get my winter holiday on December 20th :)

@lalalarae, we also should get from then, but for some reason Saturday is going to be a workday.

@ Kait2997
Can you tell me/ us about your application process? What you did, who you are, what you stand for, how you answered the questions etc
I would love to know why they choose you :slight_smile: thanks

Hey guys, i’m new to the forum… well not technically but this is one of my first times joining forums!
Who’s applying this year? I would be so happy if i could get to know another applicant! Let me know!

thanks <3

@smelltheroses91 Hi! Where are you from? I am from florida in the US :)

@smelltheroses91, hello! Everyone is applying this year except one, who is a current student at AD.

I’m from Canada! Ontario :slight_smile: wow right now florida sounds pretty amazing! this is so exciting you have no idea … i’m talking to you! someone with the same goal in mind – a complete stranger from across the country – you can prob tell i don’t forum at all lol

So is the application stuff the same for both of us? ( i’m guessing not ) They released the application form for us---- it goes over questions like - what will you contribute to uwc etc…similar to yours?
And why do you want to go to uwc? What grade are you in? WHICH college would you want to attend?

so many questions i’m so sorry, i must be ambushing you :slight_smile: I’ll try not to—

@MediDuet
Oh wow! I wish i had found this earlier! Have any of you applied before?

@Smelltheroses91 Is it already cold in Ontario? Talking to people like us is always exciting!!! Don’t worry this is actually my first forum :P

Our application process is similar but our questions are more about how our past situations and extracurriculars have influenced us as well as how UWC values apply to our lives. We have five short essays (less than 150 words) and one long essay (250-500 words.) Then they pick 100 of those for interview and 50 get in.

I fell in love with the whole idea of UWC the fact that we are so diverse and we can interact and learn the cultures of other people around the world. Also that we can have an effect on the local people and the quality of their lives :)

I am a sophomore (15) and I am interested in many of the colleges at the moment my tops are RCN, Maastricht, HK, AC, RB, and AD!
Which colleges are you looking at and what grade are you in?

@smelltheroses91, it is my first forum as well. And I don’t think anyone has applied before but if they did, they didn’t mention it here.

It seems as though you have it easier than we do! we have the short essay questions, but lack the long essay.

The snow arrived yesterday and it is cold!!! I had to run around collecting winter items since it hit so suddenly! Even the snow hills are open, much to my surprise.

I applied last year and did not get in, so i decided to talk to all of you wonderful people about it and motivating myself to write an even better application this year. I love that people can connect with people no matter what status, and that working together can make a considerable difference in this world.

The chances for getting in seem so few :frowning: Its unbearable actually! You have to compete with your whole country! What have you done so far that show you should be a candidate for getting in?

(btw i’m aiming for adriatic for a variety of reasons… but anywhere would be awe worthy)

In nj we have all kinds of weather (I hate snow it’s cold wet and gross). I honestly love the summer and don’t mind the heat (though I can’t say the same for the mosquitos)

Am I the only one absolutely obsessed with the Atlantic college?

@smelltheroses91 I’m actually very scared because I see some major talent among us, but I am #4 out of 500 in my grade for GPA and I am involved in a couple of ECs and swim team! I am desperate to make it into UWC and it would be extremely disappointing to get a letter in the mail dismissing you :(

@lalalarae wow 500? I’d say #4 is a pretty good rank with those numbers. I’m number one but only out of 310 so it’s pretty amazing that you’re #4. And I know it’s hard with ECs and swimming so I think your chances are still high!!!

@santoast13 thanks :slight_smile: what is your weighted GPA? If you have that… haha do you have 5.0 classes?

@lalalarae no problem :slight_smile: I have a 4.6 GPA

@santoast Wow! thats very good! What grade are you in? I am a sophomore and mine is 4.5

Hello all! I got a UWC brochure in the mail recently, so I’m kind of behind the rest of you, lol. I’ve read information on their website, Wikipedia, older threads on this forum, but I can’t seem to find the answer to my question. I’m currently a junior in high school, and plan on applying to Ivy League colleges as a senior. I’m really interested in this program. My thing is, if I want to apply to these schools, will it hurt me that I’ve taken an extra year of high school? I’m honestly torn. Having this experience is something I’d definitely want to try to have, but I don’t want to lower my chances in an already extremely competitive environment. I’m already behind on the application process, so I don’t want to have to work super hard on something that might not be the best decision for me at the moment. It’s super competitive! And lots of luck for everyone who is applying!!! :)

@victoryrose I think these colleges would look at this program as a good thing! It shows that you are very dedicated to your schooling (IB Program) and that you value diversity and peaceful relations, but overall it really depends on what field you are planning on going into. :slight_smile: Which colleges are you looking at?

@lalalarae I’m a sophomore too

@VictoryRose I think it will help you in the long run like lalalarae said. Again, it shows you are dedicated and willing to go for with your education. What colleges are you applying for? I also want to apply for Ivy League schools eventually.
