UWC applicants year 2014

@hedwig8, speaking of the bathrooms, I think it was AC where I read that they dont divided showers, just communal ones… :(

@Hedwig8, did they?! I thought they filmed most of it at some of the Oxford colleges and some other castle which I’ve forgotten the name of… That’s awesome though!
And oh, the bathrooms. On the open day I was just about to leave and my mum went in search of the bathrooms and she came back and was like, you know you really need to come to the bathroom, and I was like, huh? But they were sooooo cool. I felt so Harry Potter-ish, like a total Hermione went I went down the little spiral stairs and entered this vaulted chamber with wooden church like doors for the cubicles… I could almost see the polyjuice potion brewing ;)

It’s true that AC has an amazing campus, though I have to say if thee British National Committee were like why do you want to come to AC, and I was like, well for startes it’s in a castle, I’m not sure it would be the right reason!

I do feel soooo lucky to have a college in my country though, so we can visit for the open day, so more of us get sent, and like even if you just get to interviews, you get to go stay there for a night!!! I’m just sad you don’t actually sleep in the castle. The other thing is, as a Brit, there’s like a 1/2 chance that if I get a place it will be there!

Academics wise too, they have loads of great subjects. If you haven’t checked out what they offer, you should!

Oh no! I hope not! I’m pretty kind of reserved when it comes to my body, like I feel exposed changing for PE with other girls :confused: If it was showering naked… Eeek. Also, I think I read that somewhere, AC perhaps, has really bad internet in the dorms… I would be kind of annoyed if I couldn’t Skype from my room…

@Hedwig8
OMG. You’re kidding me, right??!? :open_mouth: THAT’S FREAKING AMAZING. I feel bad for saying his but you just raised my hype for AC by a ton >.<

@Hedwig8 yay I found time to come on today!!! And OMG PART OF HARRY POTTER WAS FILMED IN AC?! IT WAS MY NUMBER ONE BEFORE BUT NOW… I ALMOST JUST CRIED WHEN I READ THAT

@pashay I’m sure they have shower curtains… Right? and the internet is supposed to be pretty weak in some places; luckily there is a library and plenty of places outside with good connection! thats where I would be studying :)

The whole reason I found out about the UWCs is because an alum mentioned how AC looked like Hogwarts, and thought I should to go there. And then I found out what the UWCs were and decided I HAD to go there :slight_smile:
And as for internet connection, I think all of the colleges are pretty spotty internet-wise. In fact, of all of the blogs I’ve read, I think every single one complained about the internet. I’ve heard that its a major problem that they’re trying to fix, especially at the schools not integrated into towns…

I can’t imagine how bad it might be at rcn… It’s like in the middle of nowhere, right? And snow to boot!

@awkwardbirdie, MUWCI is pretty far out as well :P

@pashay, @tecz, hahaha yeah my friend said that there were communal showers there but I’m pretty sure they have like a door or something.

@awkwardbirdie918, I would absolutely love to live at RCN or a place like RCN. Close to the nature but still not very far from a town.
@RipCity14, if you are talking about MUWCI, I’ve seen a video on youtube and the showers were in that. If I remember right, it was like a small room. The walls were made of that special rock like some parts of the school, and the shower drain was in the middle of the floor. And there is a door on that thing. Please correct me if I am wrong!

About the showers, I should think so!
I was wondering, does anyone here know anything about Waterford Kamhlaba? Like how recognised is it by top universities?

@awkwardbirdie918, yeah, actually RCN was one of the college with the biggest complaints about internet. Apparently at AC and RCN you cant skype. Like, EVER.
@Mediduet, I think I’ve also seen the MUWCI video youre talking about. The showers I saw in the video were divided by wooden doors… However I think the bathrooms differ a lot depending on colleges. I think at Mostar two dorms double up to share a bathroom, while others like MUWCI have divided showers, and others have communal showers… I dont know for sure though!
@Pashay, I’m not exactly sure about how Waterford Kamhlaba is recognized by top Universities, but it is a UWC, so I’m sure its a very good thing to have.
Also, I’m not sure if all of you on here are aware, but the US has a Davis Scholarship for any students that graduated from a UWC and want to attend certain colleges in the US. Its a really great thing and it gives scholarships for about 91 colleges!

@MediDuet, I was actually talking about Atlantic, but I thought I saw every MUWCI video. I don’t remember this, could you send me the link?

@RipCity14, I have no idea which video included this scene. I’ll try to find it out but I don’t promise anything. It was quite a while ago. Maybe a lipdub or something.

@MediDuet, lol yeah no worries, there are a lot of Lip Dubs lol. I LOVE IT!

I think I have lost count of the number of lipdubs I have seen :)

Am I the only one who dislikes skype? I have perfect internet in my house and all around my town and I still have connection problems…

@lalalarae, I LOVE Skype. I have friends all over the world and it’s the only way to keep in touch. We also use Google+ Hangouts since you don’t need to pay for a group video call.

@Hedwig8
NO F-ING WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY THAT’S SO COOOOLLLL
sorry for being so late on the convo!!! I try, i try :slight_smile: still…harry potter bathroom scene at AC!!!

I’m going to be honest with y’all and say that i can’t understand skype!! I’ve tried like 65billion times to use it, but i just can’t add people… :’) oh dear, failure over here :/

@farmgirlmoo, lol you just type their username in and click add to contacts. Then you’ll send a request to them.
