UWC applicants year 2014

@RipCity14 about the fb group, I haven’t told anyone about my application except my best friend, mother and grandmother. But still I joined the group, and nobody reacted on it or something. (I did make sure that one person couldn’t see it though) So don’t let it hold you back ;)

Does anyone know anything about the alcohol policies on campus? I’ve come across references to going out to bars, but I dont see anything about rules on campus. I’m sure at some colleges like Armand Hammer, this isnt really a problem because the legal drinking age is 21 (well, you can always sneak alcohol of course), but I’m just wondering if its a problem in other countries where you only have to be 18 to drink, so about half of the school can…

@RipCity14 aw what a shame! How am I supposed to find you on facebook now, hmmmmmm…

@WorldViewer, thanks for the support :slight_smile: , but I don’t want to take a chance. My family is the type where if one person hears about, everyone else will and that’s that we’ll talk about until I get in, and if I don’t that’s even worse. First they’ll ask me why I didn’t tell them, then half of them will say I probably won’t get in, the other half will say I can and try to tell me what to do and say, and it’s a whole thing. I would rather not ruffle any feathers, just keep it on the down low, if I get in, yay, if not, no harm no foul (did anyone get the pun @lalalarae you should).

Good luck to whoever said they are announcing if they get shortlisted soon, sorry I can’t remember who. But all of you deserve to get in anyways.

@RipCity14, I think you just perfectly described my family… :slight_smile: Thats exactly why I’m not in the group too

@tecz77, I think I read about Li Po Chun that they punish alcohol use very strictly. I think it is prohibited in every College.

@MediDuet, yes it’ll be prohibited, but can they really stop teenagers from doing what they want to do?

@RipCity14 Sorry, I can’t reply to your PM! And no they can’t sop teenagers, but they can kick them out of a once in a lifetime opportunity :D

@aureleo, I dunno, I think they’ll understand and certainly will come down hard on you, but and expulsion? That seems a little severe. They’re supposed to know what teenagers are like and stuff, this stuff goes on everywhere. Maybe if you’re a repeat offender but they might let it slip the first time.

I think I read somewhere that uwcsea kicks you out of the school. I don’t know about others. In Maastricht it MAY be allowed because they can drink beer from the age of 16 but I don’t think you can drink alcohol on the schoolgrounds

Yeah, I am applying right now. It has started already, so I should be probably working on my essays. What college do you prefer and are u somehow preparing for it?
))

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe they would revoke scholarships? I know they cant prohibit it outside of the college’s boundaries, but if you get caught with it within their bounds and you’re underage, they could revoke the scholarships… But probably not, because that would lead to a lot of people being forced to quit…

@okp1000 omg yes the book thief is amazing!! The film’s coming out soon and it was made by the same people who made life of pi so really excited about that!!

I like how everyone is talking about UWC and @Hedwig8 is just obsessing over other people having the same interest in books as her :D

Speaking of books, anyone have any reccomendations? Though thats totally changing the topic…

@tecz77 The Divergent series from Veronica Roth is awesome ;)

@tecz77, any specific genre?

@WorldViewer, I’ve only read the first one, but I’ve been meaning to read the rest… Are you going to see the movie?

@Hedwig8 I can’t wait for the movie.
