@RipCity14, No, no specific genre :)

@tecz77 If you like books like the Anne Frank diary or The Boy in the Striped pyjamas then the Book Thief is a good book for you.

@okp1000, I read the Book Thief a few years ago, but I dont remember much except that I wasnt crazy about the writing style. Maybe I’ll try rereading it :)

@tecz77, If you’re interested in murder mysteries or spy novels, I would suggest my favourite author, John Le Carre. Start with ‘A Murder Of Quality’.

@RipCity14, I’ll definitely look into that! Who doesnt always need a good mystery? :)

@tecz77 ofcourse I’m going to watch the movie :)

@WorldViewer, Am I the only one who was upset with the casting of Shailene Woodley?

@tecz77 you’re right, I don’t like her either. But I think Four is worse! He’s totaly diffrent from how I imagined him.

@ripcity14 haha sorry about that! Oh no worries it’s not harsh at all…thanks for informing me though ;)

@Grizzzly you’re amazing we bow down to you

City of Bones
must read!

@ripcity14 hell yeah books are my thang! and @worldviewer ew no divergent is so crap it’s just a copy of the hunger games and city of bones etc. I mean it’s ok but no it’s just the style and everything it’s trying too hard to become a ‘thing’ if ya know what I mean

Also, city of bones - no. it gets all incestuous and unnecessarily complicated and most of it is just waffling about nothing. His Dark Materials is so good by Philip Pullman if you want a series garh also CHERUB and the Gone series we’ve mentioned them before but yesh read them and Lord of the Rings obviously omg so good ngl Twilight’s ok if you look past the fandom

@who ever originally asked for books (I forgot), CHERUB is great, so is Henderson’s Boys which is basically a spin off. I would say the best is Ranger’s Apprentice and Brotherband series by John Flanagan. Young Bond was alright as well. Young Samurai was siiiiick though. I love vikings, Samurai, Ninja, all that stuff.

Re. Food at the UWCs, they all make some attempt to cater to the needs of kids around the world ie. rice, vegetarian entrees, labeled meat to meet the needs of different religions etc but they also all seem to have kitchens where students can cook when they wish although at UWC USA, you can only cook on a stove in the big kitchen, not in the dorms where the burners have been removed - too many cooking fires I guess. My own kids have never complained about the food at USA or AC. I’ve eaten at USA during a weeklong adult course and thought the food was unusually good. It is southwest oriented.

@Hedwig8, Oh my god, the Gone series… I never even fished it they went on for so long. I mean, they were good books, but the sereis should have just ended. It got so random and weird at the end. And who doesnt love LOTR??
@RipCity14, Who doesnt like vikings, Samurai and ninjas?
WAIT— You guys all like Harry Potter over twilight, RIGHT???

@tecz77, well I dislike Twilight, and I’m indifferent towards Harry Potter, soooo I guess yeah.

@RipCity14, oh yeah, you havent read Harry Potter, right? Well at least you dislike Twilight. That still counts as a win for Harry Potter :)

@Apollo6 I remember seeing you on the uwc forum last year! How are your kids liking the schools they’re at? How did they pick which one to go to…? It’s so tough! Any advice for us hopefuls this year?? :)

My D graduated from USA this year. She loved it! My S is a first year at AC. I don’t get to talk to him much - no Skype on campus - but he definitely sounds happy and busy. I can’t say they really chose. USA was my daughter’s 7th choice but she made the most of it and had a great experience. AC was my son’s 3rd choice. I don’t think the location matters too much because the main thing is to spend 2 years in the company of students from around the world. Each location has special things about it. You just need to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you.
