@RipCity14, Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed Ranger’s Apprentice. As to skyping, I don’t mind quality, I just want to be able to talk to my parents, even without video… I was just a bit worried when Apollo6 said his son was at AC and couldn’t Skype :(

@Pashay, Nice to see another Ranger’s Apprentice fan. Have you read Brotherband by John Flanagan? Basically a spin-off which focuses on like a Skandian Will. Pretty awesome.

And I know the audio isn’t bad. Video gets a little spotty. But I only know about MUWCI.

@pashay I must have been wrong about the number of GB applicants! 1/4 chance sounds pretty good :)

@RipCity14, thank you for the advice! :)

@MediDuet, no problem :D, are you on Facebook?

@RipCity, Yeah I’ve read the first one but I’m still waiting to buy the next ones. I loved having one about the Skandians!

@flopsyUK, Well it’s always hard with to know with this sort of thing. There are no exact figures and everyone seems to hear different things!

@Pashay, I have every single book
All amazing.

And yesssss! For the Indian committee, I’ve heard 400, 600-800, and 1000 students apply each year. I have absolutely no idea what to think.

And once again guys, if anyone is one facebook, just send me a Private Message and I’ll send you the link to my profile. I’m not on the Facebook Group.

@ pashay, the worst thing is not knowing how good they all are and what is wanted in a candidate!

@RipCity, yes I am but I don’t want any of my fb friends to know about it, I am sorry!

@MediDuet, SAME! That’s why I’m not on the group. I was thinking of making a group chat on Facebook though, just us CC folks, we seem to know each other relatively well by now. No worries if you don’t wanna join. No one will know though.

@flopsyUK, Yeah! It’s so hard because really, it’s just based on YOU. BTW, what did you write about/say in your mini personal statement?

@Pashay, what do you mean by personal statement? I know you guys have different apps, but do they literally ask for a personal statement?

@pashay I was a bit stuck so I just said some general stuff about my personality and how much UWC means to me. Also wrote that I would like to go to AD and not fly… No idea what was good to put there

@RipCity14, Yeah, the final part of our application is called “Mini-Personal Statement” and it’s 1500 characters including spaces etc. However, in the other questions you’ve already talked about your activities, how you demonstrate the UWC Ethos, a time of Self-learning, your favourite subject, and what you think you’d contribute and learn from a UWC experience. So basically, it just says “This is a space for you to tell us more about yourself, and share with us anything that you feel has not been covered in the rest of the application.”

In comparison to all the other applications, the one here seems pretty basic. All we have to do is fill out a section with our grades, state three accomplishments and write two essays.

@pashay what have you put for your personal statement?

Hmm. I just have a bunch of questions that as about my view on a couple world events, about 5-6 of the usual questions. Some questions about my community. And one really confusing one where they ask me to explain some sort of abstract painting.

@Mediduet, what I meant was that every single time I’ve heard a talk about college applications, they say not to just list your accomplishments. So if you think you can pull off a great and unique essay about how competitions have changed your life, go for it! But dont just write about competitions to make yourself look better by showing off. Write about something you really care about!
@Pashay, as for skype, what I’ve heard is that all colleges have problems with internet connections, especially those not intgrated into towns. So skyping is possible, but can be hard.
For personal statements, just remember to be yourself and I try not to brag too much
(I know you’re all so well qualified though). Just be honest and write about how you really connect with the UWC mission statement
As for FB, I’m not part of the group becasue its not secret, but I’d still connect with anyone if theyd want to :)

Okay, I officially got confirmation from a UWC representative that I am indeed too old to even be considered. Oh well, hopefully I can find some similar opportunity in college. Good luck to you all though!

@AwkwardBirdie, I think it is probably ideal to create categories for activities and then write something about what they mean to you or why you are involved in them, kind of like an annotated bibliography if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t just make a list and not comment on them.
Re. AC, I think they can’t afford the bandwidth that allowing Skype would require. At USA they don’t let kids stream video except on the weekends for the same reason. (I don’t know if they allow Skype at USA. I never Skyped with my daughter because it was so easy to call or text.) I don’t know if you are aware of how much data your average teenager uses but put 200-350 teenagers together and it would be an astronomical amount! I don’t have much info about AC yet but my son will be home for break in two weeks and I can ask him any questions you have. I am very familiar with USA, however and I can also ask my daughter any questions I can’t answer.
