UWC applicants year 2014

@tecz77, thank you, I totally understand that by now. It is completely different from the essays, we have a part for competitions. I wouldn’t write about what I achieved because I am not that kind of a person. I’d rather write about myself.
And again, thank you for telling us that advice!

@Nnormal, which UWC are you applying to, because you’re actually younger than me! I asked MUWCI and they said I’m eligible. Even if MUWCI isn’t your first choice, it’s better than no UWC at all. Don’t give up!

@Apollo6, Thanks! Yes, when I think about it, that is a whole lot of bandwidth. It’s hard enough in my house with just 3, so 200… Eeek.

@Nnormal, I’m sorry about that. But don’t give up hope, like you said there are quite a few university experiences which are fairly similar and international. Don’t forget the UWC short courses too!

@flopsyUK, Well, I’ve drafted it now and basically, I kind of wrote like why I want to go and how my previous experiences have influenced me (cos I lived overseas for over half my life) and then a bit about like how I suit it, and I finished off with looking beyond UWC, like to how it would prepare me and the like for what I want to do in the future.

@Nnormal, Thats such a shame. Best of luck finding a program like it in college!
@Mediduet, sorry for the confusion :)

Thanks guys! Currently starting some research for other opportunities.

@ripcity I am an American applicant, all of which apply through the USA division (which then will place them in any of the many global locations) in competition for the Davis scholarship. From what I was told, I’m assuming that the Davis scholarship has a particular age range/restriction.

@Nnormal, you could apply to the school directly, but that means no scholarship, and it’s pretty expensive. Are there any other scholarships for you’ll Americans? I know I can get like a 50% or a full scholarship.

AAAHHHH DISASTER! I had no idea I was supposed to register for the December ACT so far in advance! Well I guess I did… but I forgot to… Oh well. I am happy enough with my PSAT’s and the PLAN, so ok. Crisis averted.

@Robochi, haha yeah, I didn’t know that if I wanted to take some of my IGCSEs in Jan I had to apply in like October. That would have looked GREAT on my app as well, because those are boards. But I only decided to apply in Novemer. So now I can only take them in June.

@ripcity I’m not even sure if Americans can apply directly. I think that’s the whole point of the Davis Scholarship competition…that all Americans get funneled through that. Even if that wasn’t the case yeah I’m not really looking to pay for it at all. Just don’t think there’s any way of getting around this one, unfortunately.

@RipCity14 Wow, that is a huge amount of time between dates! at least our testing isn’t that far apart. Otherwise i probably wouldn’t even be testing at all this year :stuck_out_tongue:
I wish you could sign up right before. The next one isn’t until February, and the deadline for signups for that one is the due date for the UWC application so there is absolutely no hope  i just hope my counselors don’t wait to long to get this years PSATs out. I think it was late January last year. I would like to at least see which one i did better on.

@Nnormal I think you can, but then you have to pay for it. I don’t see why they would turn away a paying student no matter the nationality. Well space could be an issue…

@Nnormal, that’s really blows. Hope you do well with whatever you choose  I’ll ask around, juuuuust in case though.

@Nnormal, its worth looking into, but I’m pretty sure that I’ve read that the Dvis Scholarship IS the only way for US citizens to go to any colleges. I dont think you can apply direct, but it could be worth looking into.
(I think the reason for not being able to apply direct would be that the US already has a lot of spaces in all of the colleges, and applying direct could hurt the changes of others)

@nnormal oh that sucks dude. Maybe you can apply for a short course instead? And there’s always fundraising opportunities if you get in directly…

My personal statements about how I want to change Mongolia even though im applying through Britain… I should probably change that, right? Hmmmm

@RipCity14 I am applying through the U.S. Committee. I guess I didn’t realize that there were people from all over the world on here (It’s my first public forum)

The U.S. application is asking for some of the books I have read this year. I am reading the Inheritance Series right now, and I would like to put that down, but I don’t want that to take up all the space. Does anyone know if it is ok just to put a series instead of a book?

Yeah ugh.

The short courses look cool but they’re pretty expensive

Hey guys when is the US application to be due? I heard it’s earlier than ours but any date? 1 month and a bit to go for canadians! sigh time flies!
and then its pretty much another month before we hear anything  good luck to all!

@earlybluebird, you should be fine listing the series as a book, I think its more to get a sense of what you read, so writing a series should be okay. To be honest, the US committee seems pretty relaxed about that kind of stuff, and I cant picture them disqualifying your app over something so trivial…
@Smelltheroses91, the US app is due on Jan. 10, and we got it around Nov. 1…

@Apollo6 How often throughout the year do they come back home? Do you they return for mid term breaks or just major breaks like Christmas, Easter and Summer?
