UWC applicants year 2014

@delaneyrae98, awww you’re missing out on all the fun then  And sorry, wish I could, but I’m not from the US. But don’t worry, I’ll let my US peeps know you got a question.

@RipCity14 when you wrote your US peeps, you meant me right? So why didn’t you ask me? Breaking your promise to delaneyrae? LOL jk you’re the best! (For other ppl, this is how the Facebook group affected us, we are all friends now!)
@delaneyrae for the student copy, I just scanned my score report and uploaded it. I don’t think you need to PM him back for the Facebook group, just click on his profile link and send him a message saying who you are or something like that.

@imready4this, I seem to remember you couldn’t even chat for 2 minutes because you had so much work. How would a man like me live with himself if I disturbed you from your oh so precious school work?

And yeah, after I send people my profile, they just add me. But delaneyrae doesn’t have facebook. And no one really wants to send a visitor message on this site.

@RipCity14 Lol yeah I figured. Sorry! I was so busy yesterday. I went to meetings and volunteers for the entire day, got home at like 8 and had a load of hw to do. Lo siento! I’ll chat with you soon, probably after I submit my app (I want to edit it even more) lol “man like me”? So what kind of man are you? A fruit? (Inside joke :stuck_out_tongue: )

@delaneyrae98 yes you scan your PSAT scores and that is your student report  and some ppl make fake fb accounts to join our group! I think you should join its amazing!

@delaneyrae98, YEAH!! It doesn’t have to be fake. Some people created Facebook accounts just for the group. Some people created with their real name but just used it for the group and didn’t tell their other friends. Some people created a fake account with a fake name and stuff. We don’t care as long as you are active! The group honestly is really fun.

@RipCity14 I’d like to join the FB group, do I have to give you any info?

@sjglove41, I sent you a PM with my profile link. Add me, and I’ll put you in the group.

Hey guys
If you still rmb I posted like probably a month ago(?)
I got an email this week and I got into the second round(challenge day)!
How are you guys doing?
Went through the aptitude test yet?

Hello guys:)
I’m so happy I found this discussion here, knowing that some ppl are as worried about the application to Uwc as I do.
I applied for Uwc this year and I’ve been going crazy about it since then! I’m from Hong Kong and I’ve done my Aptitude test and got through the next round to the challenge day.
I’m not sure how many ppl applied this year but according to the statistics shown on the LPC website, around 500 ppl apply.
For me I kinda regretted as I didn’t give the best effort on my application form. The word limit is restricted and so I don’t think it’s the best application I could’ve produced, but hey I still got into challenge day! I freaked out when I saw the email.
Regarding to my academics and activities done in my previous years. I have an average 6/7 in IBMYP (which is pretty good comparing to other students) and I’ve always engaged to community services within my community and skl. I’ve done numerous workshops and projects on providing necessities to the homeless, visiting families, and producing campaigns on anti-drug. I’m also the managing editor of the yearbook team within my school this year (though I’m the youngest in the team) and I’ve also received a 50% scholarship from the school I attend right now. My principal likes me and he hopes that I’ll be granted with an interview, my principal was really supportive about it and he even wrote my reference letter! I’m not really good at sports but I also do a bit of cross country and netball, I also received a medal during sports day this year so I guess that’s okay…? I’m not sure if my profile sounds good to the committee and I really hope I do get in so I can find people as passionate as me working together in peaceful and happy environment!!

One thing that really bugs me. If I do get into the interviews round I know they’re going to ask me my opinions towards political issues and crisis happening in the world right now. However to be honest I’ve been so busy lately and I’ve missed out A LOT on the news!!! I need some tips and help from here and I really need some guidance cos I’ve been so worried about it! I really hope I do get in, just like all these ppl in the discussion.

I just wanna see if there’s any Uwc students who can give me any insights of the application process and how the interview goes like?
Also, if I do get accepted by the committee but I do not get a space for my 1st choice of Uwc, do I still have a 2nd chance of getting a space for my 2nd choice of Uwc? Or do I automatically gets kicked out of the list?:(

Also, I’m quite confusing of how the scholarship actually work. I’m not rich and I really do need some financial support here as my dad had retired and my sister is studying IBDP which is very costly. Some say that the scholarship is given based on ur financial circumstances however I also heard some saying that a small amount of scholarship was given every year??(like 10-15) can somebody elaborate on how the scholarships work for Uwc?
Thank you and I hope I really do get some help here:3 excuse my grammar.

Thank you everyone for your responses; it has been a big help to me! The US application is due today at midnight eastern time so I am currently making last minute revisions on my short essays. And I will consider making a Facebook account to be apart of the group, and I will let you know if I do. Thanks! :)

@chuppybun, from what I’ve read and heard, I’ll try to answer your question. If you get accepted it is not guaranteed that you will be sent to your top choice. But you won’t be kicked out because they send someone else to the college that is you first choice. It only means that they will send you to another college. But again, this is what I’ve read and heard because I am just an applicant right now.

I have one last question that someone may or may not be able to answer. I am in 10th grade in the USA, but I am a grade ahead, because I am too young by only 25 days (my bday is Sept 25 and the cutoff is Sept 1). Have you heard of anyone that an age exception like this was made for? I know I can always try again next year, but I would really like to get in this year.

@RipCity14 I just created a fake facebook account  Can you send me the link again? The other one didn’t work

Chuppybun, Unfortunately the only people who can answer your questions regarding HK national committee scholarships and admissions are HK students and national committee members. Scholarships and admissions vary tremendously from country to country. My greatest surprise this year was to learn that of the ~25 U.S. Students at Atlantic College, only 8, including my son, are there on scholarships through the US national committee. The rest are full pay students who applied directly, usually as expats overseas. I was used to the situation at UWC USA where my daughter attended where all 50 of the US students are on scholarship and all are there through the US national committee.

DelaneyRae, I understand your dilemma. In a few cases the US national committee has taken younger students, one example would be Lena from Michigan who graduated in 2012, but it is rare.

Hello everyone! I just was reading all the other posts here. I am also applying to UWC this year; I entered my app last Friday. I’m so nervous!
My no. 1 choice for school, if I get in, would definitely be UWCRCN, or AC since more American students are sent there (I’m American). My greatest interests(and strengths) are chemistry and art/writing. I published a lit mag for my school and I also do a lot of service work in my town and in the city. I study French as well; languages are my passion!(One of the reasons I want to go to RCN is b/c I’m very interested in Norwegian culture and language  )I’m not sure if I want to go into medicine or publishing–they’re so different but I love both science and literature!

@delaneyrae98
I know exactly your situation! I was in it last year
I applied last year for UWC (from CANADA HOWEVER) and did not get accepted – but i can apply this year! here`s what 'ive learned

 1. You may not be ready. I certainly was not. I've learned so much just through the process and with it brings maturity. You realize it's not a competition at all, and something everyone deserves the opportunity to. 2.failing is only part of the success! don't ever be sad or afraid to fail!
 2. You may not get in. In canada, they want their kids to be IN grade 11. Especially for you and i-- we are still too young! If you get accepted in grade 10, you are a year younger than everyone else-- not a bad thing, but again-- it's the maturity
 3. You have to be ready mentally, physically and emotionally! If you get in you're leaving your family at age 14? FOR TWO YEARS... it will be hard. And this is not a getaway trip... you REALLY have to believe in the program.. not just because it's a school around the world. If you don't, and you get an interview-- you will def be cut-out.
 4. About the application-- be yourself. I've heard this from COUNTLESS people. Its the few words every person at uwc (i've asked!) will tell you. Don't try to be anything more than you.
 5. talk to people about it! join our fb group-- it relieves the stress like a drug!
 6. Stop worrying! you are blessed with another year of applying :) take it easy, believe and you will succeed.

Now that i can reflect, applying in grade 10 and being rejected may have been the most eye-opening and incredibly important period of time in my whole entire life. I learned how to be me! How to simply be me. I got a mini uwc experience by talking to all these (you) amazing people on the web and that's all i can ever ask for. I would want anyone to just apply nomatter what the outcome, because if you're willing to learn-- you will ;) i certainly did... all these incredible people taught me so much! <3 you!
stay determined ;) find some uwc bloggers! they're so nice! email them!

oh and i know you`ve already admitted. Perhaps this can serve someone else use!

Is that group for people who are applying this year? Ifthen please send me the link too:) @ripcity

Hey guys! I don’t think ripcity has been on lately but if you PM me your Facebook names I can add you to the group as well :)

@smelltheroses91 I would actually be 15 when I leave, and I would turn 16 just a month after I got there. But aside from that, thank you for sharing your insight. I totally agree with you; even 15 is a little young to leave home. Like you said, I will mature over the next year and I can always apply a second time. I totally agree! I just really don’t want to have to take an “extra” year of high school. But at UWC, it might be worth it  Best of luck to you on getting in!
