I'm trying to get into a Master's program in Political Science (applying at Duke, Univeristy of Wisconsin, Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and U of Illinois) My undergrad GPA was 3.3 (3.7 in major field). I have 2 rock solid LORs and one iffy. I've been out of school for 4 years so getting LORs has been a pain! I think my statement of purpose is great. I've taken a stats class since graduation and got an A. My resume is ok.

Why do you have an iffy LOR? You shouldn’t have any iffy LORs, all of your LORs should be rock solid. Why would you ask someone iffy about you to write an LOR? A neutral LOR could be just as harmful as a negative one.

Your GRE scores and GPA are certainly high enough to warrant consideration, but graduate school admissions are hard to “chance.” Plus, I’m not in your field, so I’m not really sure where those schools stand in competitiveness and what the general profile of students are there.

One letter is iffy in the sense that I asked the recommender a 4 years after I’ve taken his class and I’m not sure how solid his memory is on me. I sent him a packet of information to refresh his memory. He agreed to do it so I assume it has to be somewhat positive.
