ill post my stats later

JMU, George Mason, waitin on UVa

at Tech now

when did you get your JMU decision?

Can I ask why you are leaving VT?

No idea my dad just randomly told me i got in one day....it coulnd't have been too long ago

eh i just don't like it....i've lived in southwest va. for 19 years and i needa get away.....and blacksburgs really boring and the only city it's even remotely close to is roanoke. the vtech professors are reallly cool and most of the ppl are too...although...i have noticed alot of cliqing....ppl hang with their own "kind"...you could say....Muslims stay with Muslims, Whites with mostly whites, Asians with asians, blacks with blacks...there isn't much convergence...there is a little bit..you'll occasionally see an asian kid runnin aroudn with a white crew but it's rare. i really want to go to UVa cuz you're basically forced to converge since 37 percent of the student body consists of minorities. I'm Muslim myself, and I don't get down with confiding myself in one group.

confining*

and...i'm doing pre-law and UVa would be a wonderful school to do pre-law or even premed if i decide to go that route. and they give slight priority to their undergrads for law school admissions

and about the JMU admission...i got in last year and i'm not going to go there either way..i just used it as a back up but if i dont' get in to UVa i've already concluded i'm goin for GMU

VA_Mike, When and how did you find out about your acceptance to Tech? By mail??? My parents have been on vacation this week, so no mail. :(

BTW, Congrats to you!

Hey Katt-

Thanks! My mom got the letter in the mail yesterday (Friday April 8) and called me during Calculus. I had a feeling and ran outside in the hall to call her back and she told me the good news. I didn't get any notice through e-mail or anything like last year. It was a surprise. When do your parents get back from vacation?

Hey Mike! My parents just got back yesterday and received their mail today. My Mom just called me to let me know I was accepted at Tech. :) She said the envelope was dated 4/1.

I was waitlisted at JMU, so I doubt I get into UVa. Looks like I'll be going to Tech unless by some miracle I get in at UVa.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but pre-law is not the best route for heading into law school, especially in the realm of Top 15 competitiveness.

Congrats on the Tech acceptance Kat.

Actually congratulations to all who were accpeted to any of these schools.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but pre-law is not the best route for heading into law school, especially in the realm of Top 15 competitiveness."

Yeah, just do poli sci...its more benificial. Does UVa even have a pre-law degree?

Actually, Political Science is also not the best way, though it is somewhat better than Pre-Law. If anything, the best "major hook" for Law School is engineering/physics. It must be noted that Law Schools already have an excess of applications from Political Science, Pre-Law, and English majors; they encourage applicants with unique academic backgrounds, not the typical "Law School Path."

Here are some stats on the average scores, by major, on the LSAT:
http://www.uic.edu/cba/cba-depts/economics/undergrad/table.htm

Though it does not have any bearing on Law School admissions, it is still something to think about. Pre-Law does not really "prepare" you for law school per se. I have friends that were admitted into Harvard Law School and did not crack open a hornbook or casebook until registration! Needless to say, they are flourishing.

Plenty of prospective students, including me, feel the urge to understand what is actually taught so that we can, perhaps, gain an edge when our turn comes (or in my case, I am just enthusiastic about legal theory). In reality, one need not "memorize the amendments" and so forth before Law School, just working hard in a major you love will be more than sufficient.

If you really desire some sort of edge when attending Law School, I would actually suggest Physics/Math/Philosophy, or pellucidly, any subject that emphasizes some sort of logical framework. Perhaps this is why they are scoring higher than others on the LSAT;)

i mean there's no prelaw degree...they just have an excellent advisor that could help me through picking a major, just choosing some classes and stuff that'd look good, help me with internships, etc.

Just got my acceptance letter from William and Mary!! Haha! Go Tribe! Waiting on U Va., which has actually become seriously detrimental to my health ;) -Congratulations to fellow peers on their acceptances to the other fine Virginia colleges. Later-

Hey Katt, congrats on Tech! That must take some of the sting out of waiting for UVa. What do you plan to major in at Tech? Will that be the same if UVa comes through?

Best of luck!

Thanks Stumper! Poli-Sci is what I will be majoring in. And yes, it will be the same for UVa IF I was accepted.

STILL NO JMU! What's going on?!? I'm hoping its here today...

You can have my place when I leave! You are certainly more that welcome to it!!!!

Too bad you're not able to check the decision online. Wonder why they don't do that. It would save them from receiving a lot of phone calls.

My guess is that you got in. :) You know the old saying "No news is good news." They probably sent out rejections and waitlists first. That would explain why I have already received the waitlist letter. I'm not going on it, though, because I've already decided to go to Tech if I don't get in to UVa.
