Well, I’m a Va parent, not kid, but not sure why you assume you can’t get a good GPA at VT? Son there now had A’s,B’s and C’s in high school but has mostly A’s in engineering at VT , almost 3.9 GPA after 3 semesters, It can be done if you apply yourself. Go with what seems like the better fit-socially, financially, location, etc. I would not let concerns about GPA sway you that much. You certainly have control over how hard you work! Good luck with your decision.

VCU is much different than Tech.
Tech is in a little town in which the school IS the town. VCU is integrated into the city like BU, GWU, and NYU. They have totally different social scenes. Arts and hipsters are big at VCU.

Med school admissions is very numbers driven, and the name on your diploma means a lot less than you might think. Med school is also hideously expensive, so doing your first degree as inexpensively as possible is a very good idea.

Pick the institution where you believe you will earn the best grades overall and the best grades in the pre-med sequence, where you believe you will be best prepared for the MCAT, and where you will incur the least amount of college debt.

Doesn’t VCU have a guaranteed medical admissions program? Did you get into that? Hopefully, you could get a good GPA at either school if you work hard. I would tour both schools if you haven’t already done so. They are very different places.
